ParticipantThe days are getting shorter, most machines are a bu&&er to work on in the light and my torch batteries are fading fast HELP?
I bought one of these B & Q or Homebase (can’t remember which?) multi million trillion candlepower torches recently. It burns the back of my balding head as I’m prostrate on the kitchen floor struggling to dig out the motor brushes on a Zanussi 😡
Then just as I’m about to make the final connection……? PITCH BLACK!!!….the bl**dy batteries/relay thingy has cut out for lack of power and I’m well pleased by this time over my bargain purchase 👿
Please can someone ENLIGHTEN me as to what torch I should buy that at least gives some warning it is not going the die on me at a crucial/climatic moment whilst on the job (so to speak) ??? 😉

Get a wind up torch and Merloni can keep it running forever for you 😉

How did you manage during the blackouts 1939-1945?
Before my time, just.

I also tried one of those big bright torches but I also gave up on it as you can’t get a day’s sporadic use out of a charge. I now use a Freeplay wind up torch which only needs charging once or twice a week (the wind up facility is for emergency use and it is best never to let it get that low). The trouble is it does not have a magnet or clip to attach it anywhere and it has no flat faces to sit it down on.

I bought a great little 5 white LED headband light in a cheap tool shop recently complete w. 3x AAA batts which haven’t run out in 3 weeks’ use including accidental switch-ons during transit in toolbag.
Cost me £1.99. When I went back to buy a couple more they’d sold out, surprise, surprise. Threw away the packaging so don’t know where to get another. Glad you’ve warned us about those gimmicky yellow things – I had felt tempted.

I use a headlight from Robert Dyas stores por £4.99. Made by Draper. It has 4 or 8 bright LEDs depending on how you turn it on. It’s brillant. The batteries seem to last for ever.

I use one of these as well…have done for several years now. Why buy torches with batteries? And rechargeables used to drive me mad! This is definately the best option…gives out a nice light as well. Mike 😀

Ha! Ha! not sure who I should nominate for the most original gag on this one but nevertheless I appreciate the humour. 😀
Dogs dangly strip lights, LED torches and headband torches just shows (so far at least) the diverse methods we all adopt to overcome a problem of simply shining a light to work by 😛
