If the thermal fuse has blown, then there must be an issue with the defrost cycle termination temperature, never had a fuse blow without other issues present.

A quick update: Since Liebherr were charging £127 for a replacement 92C thermal relay I decided to try a similar part from another manufacture and see if that worked. I bought an 80C thermal cutout switch off eBay for £5 on the basis that I would rather play it safe and have it cut out at a lower temperature and positioned it at the top of the evaporator next to the heater (it would not fit in the same location as the original). I used the maintenance mode to test the defrost cycle with the freezer unit exposed and everything worked. This was about 6 weeks ago and since then I have had no problems with the freezer frosting up.

    Hopefully job done!

I assume the cutout switch is a safety feature. It would have to get very hot in the freezer compartment for the 92C switch to kick-in using a non standard part is probably not ideal but the lower cutout tempartarure I feel is a reasonable compromise.
