ParticipantHas anyone used these readers and are the satisfactory?
Is it worth the expense paying for the reader and adaptor?
Do you still have to purchase a PCB, blank Eprom & I assume the correct card to program it?
Is it not as easy just to buy a eprom already programed or will these soon be no longer available?

I too have had CDSL phone me and email me wanting me to buy smart card reader, hardware key, and low end adaptors for £206.92. The hardware key I am considering buying, but their info says it is a MK1 key. Does that mean there is a MK2 ?

Contact Tony at EMW electronics – they will supply the PCB already coded, in essence, plug and play. Why not buy it ready programmed? Personally, I’ve not needed the programming equipment at all to date, but I suppose it’s early days yet.

Not worth the bother, save your money ! Its a minefield, Connect will sell you the hardware key but try getting any of the smartcards and modules from them, no technical info either. After a week bug****** around with that lot its a quick phonecall to Tony at EMW next day module with you and job done !
Quick, Cheaper, its a no brainer

There is one for testing ver 1 / ver 2.
There are two keys for programming.
The first key for programming blank pcb/eproms is clear.
The second is black but will require hotpoints software to write to pcb’sThe low end adaptor has 2 versions depending on model / age so I would just do what squadman suggested.

we always use EMW much easier + they will fix any damaged components and very often tell you what may have caused the fault.

Well most of the old links have somehow got lost since the site rebuild. But using ‘advanced search’ can bring up the old threads anyway. On the subject of the Indesit Smartcard there’s loads, as you could imagine. And if you care to click HERE you will find one I found earlier.
Enjoy the content…but don’t have nightmares. 😉

Hi guys,
can anyone tell me how simple it is to use these smartcard readers. We have been out to a d/w that needs a module. We have ordered a smartcard reader and the necessary smartcard. Is it just plug and pray? is there anything specific I should know that might help.
Any advice is gratefully received.

Its pretty easy to use and it does come with instructions, must admit dont use it much but not had a failure as yet. On the fridges, every time I have programmed one the red “failure” light has come on but in each case it had programmed successfully. There is a second version I think and I dont think they are all compatible with the older modules. The biggest issue is that no one stocks all the smart cards, allways a special order or get direct from Indesit.
