    Hi

I have a MFI built-in fridge/freezer part APM6855. Typical – the fridge is 13months old, and over the past few days I have noticed the fridge has appeared to stop working (it is displaying H in the temperature window which means not working I think). Turned it on and off, and tried manually resetting the electronic temperature control (i.e. back to where it should be), but to no avail.

The freezer still appears to be OK though.

Any ideas? I really want to be a bit clued up before ringing MFI and trying to resolve the issue!!

Have you tried calling MFI customer care Ian ?

As it’s only just out of warranty it may well be worth a chat 😉

    Re: MFI APM6855 Fridge Problem

    Hi

Thanks – MFI are no use – they want a minimum of £80 for labour (callout), plus parts etc. I know an electrician, so if it was just a control board or thermostat to replace I am sure I could get it done much cheaper.

Obviously I’d have to get the necessary parts, hence the enquiry.

    Regards

    Ian

It may be a simple ice build up causing this if the freezer appears to be OK.

The fridge relies on cold air being blown up from the freezer.

Try emptying it and leave the doors open for 48 hours to allow all the ice to defrost.

    Thanks for your advice.

Does this still apply if the fridge / freezer is frost free? A friend with a similar fridge said it could be a faulty thermistor – is this possible?

    Regards

It specifically applies to frost free units 😉

Maybe one of the thermistors yes, it could also be the defrost heater, defrost safety thermostat, fan motor or the main PCB.

Try the defrost method 1st and if that doen’t resolve it you’ll need an engineer to be honest to diagnose correctly for you.

    Re: MFI APM6855 Fridge Problem

    Hi There Ian !

Purchased a similar preceding model (can’t remember the number) 3 years ago . Each year i had a problem with Ice build up.
The fridge freezer was under extended gurantee so the engineer told me that it was our kitchen design flaw (which i found hard to believe).
Recently the fridge completely packed in (ie: it was getting very warm in the fridge but the freezer was still working) .
I thought orginally it was an electrical board which needed replacing , however an MFI engineer found out that it was a leak in the back of the fridge (the leak is not harmful) .

Because I am under extended warranty the Fridge/freezer is going to be replaced I assume with your current model .

Apart from this problem have there been any others , as I might consider upgrading to a Bosch .

I hope this info is useful to you
    Best Regards

    Re: MFI APM6855 Fridge Problem

Firstly press your model the appliance that was exchanged with a gas leak, works in a completly different way to the one Ian has. Yours was a standard frost free freezer with a self defrosting larder style fridge. Inas is what we refer to as a “parasite” frost free fridge freezer, as Dave says the fridge sucks air from the freezer! hence parasite.

Ian yours will 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} be iced up you will need to defrost it for approx 48hrs by switching the unit off at the plug as Dave states. Then see how it goes, if it does it again you wil need an engineer unfortunatly

    Re: MFI APM6855 Fridge Problem

    Hi all 😀

Seems like a common problem with the APM6855, likewise my fridge stopped cooling yesterday (Hottest Day of the year nearly) but the freezer was ok and it too is only 13 months old.

I prised out the plastic cover at the back of the freezer compartment and pulled forward the freezing element cover that houses the circulation fan to find that there was quite a bit of ice surrounding the element.

I switched off the fridge/freezer completely, defrosted it overnight, started it up again this morning and it is now running great again. I am unsure if there is an underlying fault with a heating circuit which should reduce the ice build up surrounding the element. I’ll check the element again in the next few months.

I was thinking that the problem lay with a faulty thermostat initially as well, I’m glad I read this thread first.

    Thanks, Mystick

    Re: MFI APM6855 Fridge Problem

Hi, We have acquired one of the APM6855 fridge freezers from our landlord who had it installed, we have been using it for 3 weeks, last night the fridge was freezing everytihng then this morning (12 hours later) it had started to display H on the screen, the freezer dwefrosted ruining all food inside and has been fluctuating in temperature since, the fridge is still above 9degrees. The freezer seems to be full of ice at the bottom and back, any ideas whats wrong with it, as our landlord is taking a week to get an engineer out to it!!!

Any of the above mentioned I’m afraid, try to find and enginner yourself that may be able to attend faster and put the landlord in contact would be my advise 🙂

    Re: MFI APM6855 Fridge Problem

    Dear all
Having a similar problem with my APM6855 18 months old – quoted a between £70-90 MFI call out charge. Think this is appalling considering the age of the appliances quoted – the one time I haven’t bought the insurance but is 18 months reasonable anyway for an appliance that costs £400-500. was just going to replace mine but think I may get in touch with trading standards, having read the various posts on the site starting to think that this product not actually fit for purpose!! wonder how many more out there have had similar problems but don’t know about this site forum!!
I’ll give your suggestions a try though 😕
