AND, the machine controls when it goes in. A 3 in 1 tab dissolves over time, so can only survive for a FIXED period of time.

Given that each manufacturers dishwasher will have a different idea about how long their programmes will run, how much heat/water/time will be involved, logically it becomes obvious that a 3 in 1 tab cannot be ideal for any given machine.

Do as K says, and use the separate compounds – it WILL give better results.

    Penguin,

Not to get too technical about it all but you’ve mentioned something worth explaining that a lot of people don’t understand, all washing detergents contain a kind of time element to them. Many of the cleaning agents (there are over 130 ingredients in a standard soap powder) are designed to kick in at a particular time in the cycle using the internal heat of the machine to time the release. There’s loads more on detergents but I’ll stow it for now.

Suffice to say I often remind customers that there is no point in buying a decent machine then using some rubbish detergent in it as the detergents etc. that you use are as equally important to the result as the appliance chosen.

    Re: miele dishwasher

Thank you for your all the comments. I agree with what you have said about 3-in-1 tablets and have shied away from them before now.

However I still cannot get rid of these white deposits on my glassware!
I am going to leave it for a couple of days to see the full effect of increasing the water level and adding an interim rinse.
Obviously the machine must be working ok as it has been checked by Miele and with the extra rinse, I cannot believe that it is dirty water still left there. Anyway, sometimes, they are ok but there is no rhyme or reason to it.

Perhaps the answer is just not to wash glasses in the machine! I know this is what some of my friends say!

    Deb,

Crystal glasses are the only type of glass it’s better to wash ‘by hand’. Otherwish you should get perfect results every time in your machine on any programme setting. Ordinary glassware after time will take on a ‘bloom’ type of appearance (i.e colours of the rainbow effect) Which means the outer coating of the glass has etched away and deterioated due to effects of the detergent.

White deposits?…that can only be due to too much Rinse Aid, just turn the setting down a fraction!

    Thank You Martin,

I have turned the rinse aid down one setting and it made a difference. The marks are not so bad and there is no streaking at all. I may even try the lowest setting. I didn’t do this before as I had been told that if you get spotting, increase the rinse aid, streaks – decrease it. However, I was getting both and thought that it was just that there was too little rinse aid.

I tried the machine with no detergent, just running on empty and that gave streaks on the door — they could only have come from the water and the softener is set correctly so there is only rinse aid to consider.

I appreciate everyone’s comments and help. Thanks to all of you who have read and commented on this. ( It beats watching TV these days anyway)

I agree that you should get clear spotless glasses and that is what I had with my previous dishwasher. However that was 4 years old before Bosch got fed up with repairing it! I think things have moved on a bit since then and in many ways these machines are very sensitive to small changes in the basic settings.

    Have a good weekend everyone
