I had a phone call yesterday from a smooth talking guy that ‘represents’ a national chain of pubs. He is desperate for a local (preferrably one man or 2 man bands) to repair various types of domestic appliances in licensed premises. Mostly washing machines and dryers he reckoned. The he asked what area I covered and, to cut a long phonecall short, apparently I ticked all the right boxes. 🙂

Then he asked me what my callout/labour charges were? I told him and he went “Ouch! oh that’s a lot more than we are offering, but thanks anyway”. Before I had a chance to ask him what his rates were he was gone! 😯

Well as it happens this guy phone me again today, not realising he had rung me yesterday. Same speil, same smooth patter, I recognised him straight away. I cut into his patter at the point where he was about to ask me for my rates and I asked him to specify exactly what the deal was and what he was prepaired to pay out per call?

£22 plus VAT per completed call :rolls: 😕 😯

Why not pop down to one of this guy’s outlets and order a meal and a few beers up !

When the bill arrives tell them that it is far more than you are willing to pay !

What a joke these twats are, where do they ever get off telling people how to charge and run there busineses. He will soon get the message when these appliances start to cause problems and he has pubs full of dirty bar mats and towels, the Health & Enviroment Department would be intrested in that. Lets see how much he is willing to offer then ( Ha )

Well wouldn’t you know it the guy rang me back today….guess what?….It turns out to be GRAFFTERS (http://www.graffters.co.uk )

I reminded him that I won’t start my van up for £22 but, to cut a long story short, he has agreed to my £49.50 call and I’ve got a job tomorrow at a Brewers Fayre in Reading.

Hoover Tumble Dryer and he says if it’s over 3 years old to right it off if need be and he’ll shell out the £49.50…..Sounds a good deal to me so here’s to Hoover!

Oh, and I’ve got an official emailed ‘Headed Job Sheet’ that the Manager has to sign as well as I on arrival, logging times signed in and out from the job…looks pretty neat.

He promised a “30 day turn-around” after invoice and job sheet submission. So wish me luck!

Anyone else do work for these guys I wonder?

we have been doing jobs for graffters for approx 6 years in wetherspoons, greene king and brewers fayre pubs and i can honestly say they are the best wp we deal with. They do try to persuade me to do the odd commercial job but take it well when i refuse!. we have a limit of £100 for washers and £70 for driers which saves loads of fuss when quoting. i find payment a bit slow but not a problem when they are so easy to work for. If you need commercial spares or advice they can do that too.

never heard of graffters but here in sunny blackpool we work for a manchester based company called cleantech they just call us send us to the pub we do the work send them the bill and they pay it.
its all very proffessional and i never get tired of taking clingfilm out of those bosch pumps(apparantly its used as a belt by the kitchen staff)
i would never let someone dictate to me the amount i charge for labour i wouldbe offended if anyone tried.

Yes I have to agree with you guys. I’ve since got the full contract details from Graffters and they certainly seem a slick outfit and no mistake. Having to call on commercial premises and say “I’m calling on behalf of Graffters” is rather odd and having a Graffters Job Sheet for them to sign feels somewhat strange, but hey I can live with that. 😉

Not a contract for most people to take on as you need to be able to do same day service. Their “response time” is set at 4-8 working hours (for commercial machines that is) but domestic appliances you need to do the job pretty damn quick. Non of this 2 day lark….no way!

    All good fun! 😀

I did some work for them.

You seem to get a years work from them and then nothing.

Can only presume that someone else comes along with a cheaper price.

But I can definantly say the one good thing is that you never go into the pub for a meal or drink after you have visited the pubs backrooms and cellars.

BEWARE FOLKS!!!! After doing work for Graffters for a couple of years, I was lulled into a false sense of security. Travelled outside my usual area, and worked weekends to get them out of a hole a couple of times. Shame they no longer see fit to pay their bills – 4 jobs between May & August this year – and they were surprised when I refused to do more more work for them when they phoned in October!!! Having been hit VERY hard by the demise of Servis & MFI, I’m very wary of national organisations – please don’t takwe risks with this mob.

    HI MARTIN
I have also been doing work for graffters, for the last 10 years, never had any problems, ok to work for as long as you fill in and complete the paperwork, and send in invoices on time,

Recieved letter today from WILSON FIELD saying GRAFTERS LTD have gone into administration on 21 February 2012 and that they have been appointed as Joint Administrators.
