how many people remember the first Indesit machine to come over. It was £99 which was very cheap for the time. mechanical timer, pump was mounted on the front of the main motor which was induction so to pump out machine had to go into spin full of water. That meant it had a spin speed of 400 rpm. its was almost dripping when it came out

very simple machine to service, coins in the pump were common and often destroyed the impeller which was rubber held on by a left hand bolt. Or the coin stayed in there that long that it rubbed through the aluminium pump housing. All really simple and cheap to fix

    oh an yes just remembered
think is was either AEG or Miele or poss both used a hybrid motor that combined induction and brush motor in one case. induction was used for the wash while the brush motor kicked in for the spin but it did used electronic control

And yes Andyjawa had forgotten about the variator pulleys used on ariston and candy. Dot you also remember the philips top loader HN3156
