Going out to this on Monday, customer reports that sometimes the machine will not start, then if they try again a few hours later it works perfectly 😕

Any pointers before I go would be most helpful.

    Thanks.

Blimey!…..Well first off in order for it to operate the ‘user activated display’ comes up to select the prog. Once the prog is selected it says “Close the door”….my question therefore firstly is…..is that what happens? If not or the display doesn’t come up, then wall socket/fuse probs?….Dunno mate 😕

No worries though as these babies are a walk in the park to fix! 😀

    Hi Jim
These can be a pain to fix TBH. Check for water in the base and getting close to pcb in base r/h/s.
Make sure you check esp heater and the usually ‘o’ rings, also the recirc pump for leakage both water and resistence and the usual hose from metering unit to sump.

Check your email aswell mate 😉

Greg, you were so right. Machine is only 15 months old, I advised customer that it should still be covered by 2 year full g/tee but he was adamant that he had not registered it when purchased. Would this make a difference?

Getting the door panel and console back together when it has a heavy decor panel on is a real pain for starters.

Due to the young age of the machine it looked pristine. No leaks, all wiring and visible components perfect. I could trace a circuit into the main power board in the base which had no signs of damage. I could trace cotinuity from this board up to the control module.
The machine was as dead as the proverbial dodo. Because of this it is not possible to run any test routines.

I suspect a control module fault but at around £95.00 that is far to expensive for me to take a punt on without any confirmation that this is a possibility.

Anyone like to agree or otherwise ? 🙂

Yes it seems that the main power module may be the problem here? I guess the display module doesn’t light up or behave at all in this case?

Incidentaly, it’s best to remove the decor panel first before taking the outer door panel off, much easier to put back together then. 😉

I did have each individual panel off, due to the type of decor panel fitted it was a real PITA trying to get the thin metal edges under the console to latch onto the top of the door, I don’t think they used the correct mountings. My guess was that the touch control/display module is at fault rather than the base mounted power module. 😕

Might be best for your customer to give BSH a bell as I’m sure they would accept the warranty or at least confirm if they will take it on before you get more involved?

I was thinking along those lines, perhaps BSH would accept the repair as in g/tee if the customer agreed to extend the maintenance contract, his other gripe was a five day wait for a call out when he rang them last week. I get the impression he is not the patient type, he was ringing round to suppliers whilst I was in the kitchen. 😥

It will have a full two year guarantee regardless of registration.

Customer just needs to show purchase receipt to the engineer.

Thanks boro, he has now rung BSH again and they have agreed to call and fix it on production of receipt, also bringing both modules as well. 8)

What would be your guess as to the fault?

Really annoys me when call centre tell punters things like that, cos they don’t know if the part is in stock or not. Therefore we get it in the neck when punters say “they said you’d have the part with you” 😡 .

As for the fault I’d agree that it’s probably a control module fault. Assuming that there is a 240v supply from socket. But a previously stated these are a bugger of a m/c to fault find on.

Sad really, when you think that I have repaired a 13 year old Hotpoint 7871 D/W for less than £60.00 this morning, leaking drain pump. Rest of the machine is perfect.

    Jim.

PS. Interesting to read in the NEFF Tech Info that a fault could be caused by ‘The Wrong Trousers’ 😆 “crackin cheese Gromit.” 8)

You said it, I asked this customer to let me know the outcome, phoned a couple of hours ago. Engineer called, fitted control module without success. Decided that main power module was at fault, didn’t have one, none available even from Germany, will be the New Year before a fix.
