cheers Don
i think i will open an account and give it a try, sometimes the customer will pay a little more if there going to get it quicker, and more accounts gives me more chance of finding somebody with the item in stock.June 16, 2009 at 9:12 am #288728kladave

From the horses mouth 😉 Credit insurance is available on new accounts, the level of credit available will depend on the business application.

just an update to let you know that D.A.D (or the insurance company) would not allow me any credit.i have to pay up front with credit card etc. the delivery charge is £45.00 if your order is less than £500.00. and not £35.00 as it said on there website.
never been refused credit before so i had a chat with them and all they said was the insurance company is being very carefull at the moment. i can reapply in six months.
i know things are a bit difficult at the moment but with good references from other suppliers and being a well established business i cant believe they wont take any calculated risk, thats what being in buisiness is about isnt it. surely there going to lose out.July 8, 2009 at 11:31 am #288731kwatt

It’s a common story ATM I’m afraid. 🙁
Basically credit insurers are just not taking any risks and, if you’re considered to be retail or have no assets, you are unlikely to get insured.
If the supplier uses trade insurance for all accounts (many do) then the computer just spits out that you’re not a worthy risk and that they won’t insure the debts. It is very inflexible but most suppliers will do this especially where they have no trading history with you to try to get a steer on the level of risk.
It’s just the way of the world now that this happens and it’s only become a problem really since the finance markets went into meltdown which has caused the removal of credit and credit facilities.
What you also have to bear in mind is that, if someone goes pop owing a few hundred quid even, you have to sell a lot of machines at manufacturer or distributor margins to make that up.
We looked at it for ISE and, currently, we only use credit insurance where the debt exceeds a certain level or where we think there’s a level of risk as, in all honesty, many of our customers wouldn’t get credit insured. Hence, tight credit control and if you don’t pay on time you get grief. 😉
