AFTER GREAT DELIBERATION THE NEW NAME FOR “CORGI” IS, WAIT FOR IT,
GAS SAFE REGISTER
Bet this took a great deal of time and inventiveness to come up with – it really rolls off the tongue doesn’t it….

Quite funny that only last week Watchdog did a Corgi feature and pressed the point to consumers to always check the engineer really is registered and yet failed to mention anything about a near future name change.

Thats because it’s not a name change. Capita will be the new company responsible for the registration of gas engineers. But Corgi will still exist in a different roll. I wouldn’t mind betting the fees will go up by quite a lot.

as corgi is recognised by all. come april when the switchover takes place im sure the public will still be demanding a corgi gas engineer to carry out work,i know corgi will still be branding themselves for which we will have to pay the privilege,while still having to register with capita to carry out gas work,seems we will be paying twice for the same thing,just gets better eh?

Are you saying that Corgi will still exist as a register for gas engineers as it is now? SO there will be 2 official Gas registration schemes?

no ,what i am saying is corgi is recognised by all,and will be offering their services for installers but not as a governing body,but if we wish to continue using corgi logos,signage and so on then this will not be free.

Just got my letter through today with the new website access code.
The price remains the same for registration and you can even keep you gorgi number to save confussion. :rolls:

Many, many, many Corgi engineers are very pleased with this for varying reasons, count me in as one of them.

I’ve received my “Application” letter from Gas Safe Register as well.
They want money, and will save me a bundle if I do it on line quickly.
Question?
If all is being handled by CAPITA as from April 1st 09, why do I need to pay anything to another body from the same town as Corgi who are hiding behind the logo of the H.S.E.
I am glad to see the back of the present incumbent along with their intransigence, arrogance and outright beligerance.
Would I be right in assuming I can tear this up?

As far as i know you only pay Capita, Corgi are around for some reason but you dont have to register with them.

I guess this is not mandatory, and it looks like a way of the canine association of getting the last drop of blood. They are going to be a toothless hound in any case, as Capita are going to be the new body in the legislative side of gas work.
I was aware that the present incumbent would continue as a stationery supplier, but have they adopted the methodology of the internet directories scams.
If that is the case, I hope people give it a bit of thought before spending some money. I was suspicious with the “Register now & save £22” bit.
Looks like they may have made a dogs dinner out of it then!

UPDATE:- A pity this had come from Basingstoke, as immediately I leapt to the conclusion that a kennel was being shared. Not the case.
I picked up the phone to Capita earlier today, and they transferred me internally to an operative within the gas Safe Register Scheme. He assures me they are a body run by the DTI who are in place to assist the transition from the present regime to Capita. He did however agree that the “Image” and address location has given them a few headaches.
