Perhaps they have so much in common with Apple..
Designed in California and assembled in China
For washing machine perhaps designed in China and assembled in Britain?
The UK manufacturer need to be very different and have a completely new model that is not copied from other companies or even sharing their components. Look at Ford, they used Citroen engines in their diesel range and look at the older Volvo and Jaguar which were rebadged Ford Mondeo. Vauxhall is using Fiat engines as well??
I think the last thing we need is a rebadged of an old model. Do we really need a British made washing machine which are basically the same as their competitor and the only difference is the price and patriotism? It is worth trying getting a slice of the washing machine sales market? They need to come up that is revolutionary like LG with its direct drive, White knight with their eco electric tumble dryer even though it takes 8 hours to dry the clothes. I will watch this space and see what is so different from hundreds of washing machines…

I’m sceptical because Iv seen it before, anyone remember “Reason”. They setup promising the world, my parents live near where they setup in Pembrokeshire, Now they have gone bust not even making it to market.
The industry is saturated by low cost high volume products.
As much as people don’t like Indesit/Beko they build a very decent product for a price point. Then you have the Korean’s, Both Samsung and LG have the resources to dominate te market.
Take Samsung, they have taken over almost every market they have entered. AV, Phoes and computers. Then LG are not far behind.
The question is do we really need another manufacture, is there really a market.
I’m skeptical because its like someone saying I’m going to start another supermarket chain.

Let’s just hope then we have no ‘reason’ to witness Ebac not taking the same route. Think positive eh?
Or positive scepticism being an acceptable alternative for Ma Dangler :clown:

We have some of the worlds best Engineers, unfortunately our people who build the appliance prefer to be paid more than £2 a day.
Our workers are not as the Spanish say “Hungry” or as we prefer to say “Desperate” , but basically when other countries cost of living is so low they will be used, now China/Turkey is increasing its cost of living, there staff are becoming more demanding and in a few yrs we will see a similar slump to the UK’s in the 80’s.
Hopefully that is when the UK can grow and we can use both the brains and the brawn to build the UK PLC into a global player.
It would also help if Mr and Mrs Smith grew some pride and supported our home built products and stopped buying cheap crap. They may find they have less to complain about.

I mentioned on a different post that the Japanese goods were very cheap and poor quality when it was first imported to the UK during the 70’s and 80’s. Now they make the products so well and as a result it was expensive because the cost of living in Japan and people are kind of willing to pay that kind of price for quality.
Imagine if Apple went to Japan and ask them to build the iPad, we would have not been buying the iPad for @£300 possibly @£450. So like someone said China, Turkey not forgetting India are asking for higher wage because they want our lifestyle which is understandable and this comes at a cost.
I say in five to ten years time we will see the price of goods will no longer being part of the bargain range. Instead, it’s possible this english firm will fill in the gap and produce a mid range product that is affordable and hardwearing.
I do not understand why Turkey is getting a lot of “Blue” chip firms wanting to manufacture their goods there as their standard of living is similar to us and is part of the EU. Few years back there were an exodus of “Blue” chip firms going to Poland to get them to manufacture their products and now Poland is getting expensive so the same firms jumped to the next country. This brings to the question where will they jump to next when Turkey becomes too expensive? Iran or Iraq?

Ebac already made or sold refrigeration products. 😉
I hadn’t seen that so thanks for that but I have to say, I’m actually surprised that Ebac bought it for that much. Not at all surprised that production in Caithness is not happening though.

Dehumidifiers are refrigerators basically so its not a real change for them.
