Not normally any auto defrost in the fridge. This could be an anti condensation heater to stop ice forming around the drain hole or an ambient temperature heater for use when the fridge freezer is in a cold environment.

KeymasterDave / Flyman,
Thanks again, I have an engineer coming out tomorrow.
Anti condensation heater or auto defrost I have heat in the fridge compartment permanently !!!
Any idea how to disconnect the heater ?
This would give me a temporary fix while I source a replacement pcb.
I’ll post the engineer’s findings when complete.March 3, 2005 at 11:25 am #115916admin
KeymasterAll,
The pcb has writing next to each componet.
The white lead connected to the pcb at point “F6” is the fridge heater connection.
This is a temporary fix whilst I source a replacement pcb.
Many thanks to the engineer who called today and showed me the location in 5 seconds.
Hope this may be of help to any other unfortunate soul who has an Ocean/Brandt APM6825.
Anyone have specific details of where I can order a replacement pcb ? (the previous page is a bit vague as to who or where you can order a pcb for this fridge.)March 8, 2005 at 11:11 pm #115917skankz

freezer_user wrote:Hi everyone
I have an integrated fridge/freezer made by “OCEAN” with model number APM6825 (Frost-free).
switch of at mains for a minute and back on and it will come in to defrost. if compressor starts you have a pcb problem.
defrost time is 45 minutes or 10 degrees on the evap which ever comes first.
biggest fault on this model is incoplete defrost which leave ice hanging on bottom of evap, works it way down to drain and blocks it.
most faults on this appliance can be solved by changing the pcb. but check evap (wet wall) in fridge first. when appliance is off check to make sure back of the fridge is not loose, if it is this is the problem and it won’t last much longer and can not be repaired.April 3, 2005 at 12:04 pm #115918admin
KeymasterRe: Ocean APM6825 from MFI
Well, my new pcb has finally arrived.
The fault still remains.
The fridge EVAP appears to be permanently on. Although with the new pcb sometimes is very warm other times is only moderate heat coming from back wall in fridge. If left for 24hours fridge is tepid – colder than ambient but never really gets cold even when thermostat is set to max.
Have had to go back to disconnecting feed to evap.
Can hear the compressor and refridgerant working and switches in and out over a period of time.
The freezer drainage is clear and yet the freezer will only half freeze a tray of ice cubes. top of cubes freeze but center never goes solid.
Exchanger is clear, small amount of ice/condensate on feed pipes.
I can see three devices in the freezer compartment as previously mentioned in this thread. Any ideas as to what would be the next logical step ? Other than throwing the whole thing out as scrap !!!!!!When I switch on after a shut down the compressor does not start – SKANKZ

I have unfortunately had 2 of these fridge freezers from MFI and they both packed in after 2.5 years. Both were due to an internal leakage. Had them both recharched but it only lasted about a month. The answer is DONT buy these units.

❓ Hi All, I have a fault on this type of fridge/freezer. Last year after defrosting, probably due to the door not being shut correctly the unit would not start up. I had an engineer look at it and he concluded (in the absence of other faults) it was the control unit in the top of the fridge. He ordered one but in the mean time the unit started to work ok-for a year. Had the same problem yesterday and I just get clicking from the control unit and the light flashes randomly. I can get the compressor and light to work for a short period by judiciously flicking the mains swith. Any ideas; or should I buy a new unit?
Regards

I would suspect the PCB to be honest, for this model (assuming yours is an APM6825) they are £150 inc VAT 😯
An engineer would be required to verify this of course.

I have the same fridge/ freezer. Branded as Hygena! I have had an Engineer out to repair it 3 times now as it is still under warranty.
At present the bottom of the frige is moderatly cold 6 c whilst the top does not fall below 10 c. Can you tell me what the fault may be?
Yet again I am having frost form in the bottom of the freezer. As this will be the 4th vist from an Engineer should I demand a full replacement product? The same fault keeps occuring every 6 – 8 weeks.
Luckily my warranty does not expire until March 06.
I plan to print out any reply to this and wave it under the Engineers nose!June 21, 2005 at 7:43 pm #115923admin

Oh! additonal to the above.
Is there anywhere I can get an Appliance Handbook online for the APM6825. I appear to have lost mine!
Also what is the ideal summer setting for the Fridge Thermometer. Mine is currently set at 4. As above the Fridge is not very cold but large quantities of ice are forming then defrosting on the back of the fridge. Thanks ❓

Hi, you’ll get the handbook free of charge (normally) from MFI Extracare on 08457 959722.
As far as the repair goes. where is the unit positioned first of all as it may the enviroment rather than the appliance causing the problems?
Also, in the three previuos visits, what has been replaced ?
Dave.

Hi.
Visit 1 – Thermostat unit replaced in top of fridge.
Visit 2 – Ice removed from elements rear of freezer/ drain holes unblocked (we had been coming home every day to puddles of water on floow from bottom of freezer door).
Visit 3 – Fan assembly / control replaced rear of freezer.
Fridge/ freezer fitted by MFI as part of fitted kitchen. Approx 2 Metres from oven, no other appliances nearby. I think cooker is irrelevant as these probs occur even when we have used no other appliance.
Dave.

I have the same model, only 3years old and just out of warranty. The freezer and frigde have stopped cooling but the light remains on in the fridge.
It sounds as though this is not a good model. Is it worth repairing this?
or would I be better advised to scrap it and purchase a different fridge/freezer?If so could you suggest a better model?

Anyone who can tell me what other Fridge Freezers fit the cabinet supplied by MFI?
I am seriously considering replacing this one as soon as the warranty expires.
Thanks in advance. 😀
