I take it they’ve seen a few then?
I’ve no doubt it’s much older than I am.
(It wouldn’t surprise me if i’m one of the youngest members on here, actually.)

KeymasterLet me put it this way…
When I started doing trade sales of spares around 1993 or thereabouts I was shocked that people were still using these things as, at that time, they were knocking on 20 odd years old.
After that I quickly learned not to be so surprised when old machines turned up out the blue that you expected never to see again. Some of them were even total horror cases that should have been burned at the cross let alone punted to the poor unsuspecting public. Amazing how times change and, don’t.
I’m sure that a few of the current crop of Indesits etc. will survive into the future somehow. Okay, so some of those you might need to put in a time capsule and even then the fear is they’d rust away, but I’m sure you get the point.
We have (amazingly kinda) recently sold some bits for an old Zanussi Z series machine. Surprising because by modern standards it looks damned awful, not surprising as, unlike the current crop of Zanussi’s (AEG and all the rest) it was actually built pretty well. It wasn’t even that hard to work on.
But one of the really good things about some of these old timers is that you could actually tell the customer, in all honesty, that they were well built and built and built to last. Sadly these days that’s not always possible with a great many of the well known brands, none of the mainstream ones that I can think of outside of the top end German stuff and of course ISE.
But every now and then one of them turns up just to prove that you’re not as smug as you thought you were. I had a custoemr a couple of years ago on asking for a door seal for a Candy WD262, the desginer of which abortion I hope was duly taken out and promptly executed in true Mafioso fashion. That guy made my life a living hell for about three years and helped to cause the collapse of the original Candy Five Year Coverplan, which cost me a lot of cash.
Ah the memories, smells like…

KeymasterSorry I should have clarified so all the older dudes knwo what I was on about.
The Z series was the Z919T’s etc, also widely known as the Washcraft machines which were replaced by the FL series in the early to mid eighties. These were then replaced by the Nexus series, split tank, split cabinet, which survives to this day in the various brands portfolios from Electrolux.
I’m sure Alex will correct me suitably on any errors.

My Grandad has a 20 odd year old Zanussi still going strong, it’s white with grey fascia, push in panel on the soap drawer, manual timer which you pull out to turn on, and two massive red lights on the front.
Only fault it’s ever had is that the hot valve leaks slightly, but he always turns the water supply off.
Unsure what model that is, but it’s older than me!

It’s an 18370 or 18371, facelift of the earlier purple 1850 etc machines 😉
I’ll grab me tartan knee warming blanket 😆

…and i thought Almond was bad enough!
(We’ve still got an Almond WM25, think it’s about 10 years old, horrible colour…)

It’s got the protruding “triangular” facia on it as well and it’s an early FL series machine. Probably an FL1012 if it’s non-Jetsystem a machine which, whilst I was skeptical about at first, proved to be extremely robust, quiet and reliable.
The later ones had white facia’s. It possibly still also has the pull out program guide on the soap drawer front, pull on the red tab and it should slide out.
All this opens an interesting thread actually for me and some interesting questions that should be in the retail forum, like do you actually know what you’re selling?
Dave, can I borrow your tartan blanket? 😆

It was not Purple, it was Amethyst. A colour picked after extensive market research.
I still have several of the old ‘Purple’ ones on my patch. replaced motor brushes in one last week that was 28 years old, not a mark on the alloy backplate, everything other than the door seal and pump original.Jim.

Actually a facelift of the 1848, the 1000 rpm version of the 1850/1.

My first machine was an 18580 (same machine with but with a chrome door). We bought it in 1980 and my Mum had it from 1987 till last year!
I replaced the original black door seal but other than that it was never worked on

I still stock the spares for these and I have 2 in my patch that I evoke lashings of TLC to. 😉
Seems like only yesterday that they were on the market… where has the time gone eh? :conf:

Indeed, just check that the back plate has been corroded by the modern-day soap powders, and fix them up!
“Do I need a new washer?”
“While this is still working? Nah!”

No pull out programme guide on this one, also, no jetsystem.
Unsure what you’re trying to imply by the quote above though.
