ParticipantIt was a learning curve for me today. Apparently Beko washers are not OAP friendly due to the door handle design. It requires effort to open to those with arthritic hands.
Bosch wm are ok but not easy to operate the door. In fact all wm except for Hotpoint are not arthritic OAP friendly.
Those new hotpoint models with large door handle, big door, large drum access, easy to open soap drawer, big sized program knob and sizeable buttons are all user friendly for arthritic OAP.
I think I will have to promote this Hotpoint to OAP from now on.

At least they can open the door easily when it breaks down 🙂

I’d say the new Candy’s and Hoovers are the best for OAP’s with the door latch at the top of the doors

Miele, just a light touch of the ‘Door’ button on the control panel. 😀

They may be the best but they have terrible reputation which was why I wouldn’t sell it.

Miele also do a dishwasher with a door that opens when you rap the door with your knuckles!

or for a basic machine use one of these, one simple dial, and door is easy to open .

Wow, that looks quality, I just wouldn’t want to risk my companies reputation by selling something like that, not much profit margin and sure to fail.
Not for me.

I popped into my local Currys super dooper store this afternoon as I needed to buy a jug kettle for my staff’s kitchen. (they bu&&ered the last one!)
Anyway, as I’m ‘an old person’ I thought I would venture past the rows of washers and try the door releases as I went. (To aid this very crucial survey). Stricken with arthritis and a dodgy back plus untold degrees of complex medical problems too numerous to bother you with I had no trouble opening and closing any of the doors. (Though the Hotpoint Aqualitis, LG Steam thingy, Miele and one Siemens weren’t plugged in and needed to be plugged it to operate). Their ‘Essentials’ brand (looked like Vestel rubbish) was already broken anyway.(some OAP vandalism probably).
I went mad and spent a fiver on a Logik Jug Kettle by the way but will dock it from their wages anyway, no worries there. :clown:

No mention of
Amica AWB510L.
2 year guarantee, you get any repairs and a good priced reliable machine…..and the door is a doddle to open. Buy from Swift.
Sold lots and only one customer had a problem but she comes from a family of appliance wreckers.

I’m impressed that you decided to carry out the research and put yourself into the mindset and frame of an old person. Were you wearing thick gloves and beer glass goggles?
While most machines are easy to open and operate but it is easy to forget that all those modern technology such as delay timer, select the wash program then select the temperature then select the spin, while all of those can easily leave old people feeling flummoxed. Once you have taken that on board, you will be surprised that there aren’t many machines that really caters for old people. Basic Bosch washer, basic hotpoint washer with extra large handle, Chinese made Zanussi are all the ones that targets old people.
Oh, there’s the dishwasher as well but don’t even start there! If I ever dared to venture that territory, I shall be recommending that this old person to be put into a home as modern machines will not meet their basic requirements!
It opened up my eyes and I have seen it first hand and with the ever growing number of old people as my customers with their 10-15-20 years old appliances are coming to an end of their working life.

I spent the best part of 2 hrs yesterday chasing phantom faults, this old lady has had hotpoint out about 4 times for ripping clothes. She’s refusing to swap programmes for delicates and is always mixing up washes. She wants me to put in a report condemning machine which I ain’t gonna do
