Re: One Man Biz @ Home?

    Couple of things –
I specifically went for a transit as I can then carry a new machine on the van all the time ,I am selling on average 2 a fortnight solely because I am there when I write off the machine ,So they don’t have to go to Currys etc A week ago we had a woman ring with a candy with smoke pouring from the motor ,Asking for the cost to call and fit a motor ,Duly quoted and declined she enquired if we sold new machines Debbie replied yes gave her the price, which included del ,inst, and disposal ,she said she would come back if interested .
An hour later she was on the phone when could we deliver ,That afternoon was the reply,Argos quoted a week plus charge to unpack etc approx the same for comet, curry’s and the rest .
my point is this if you have the abiliy to store one somewhere even your shed it gives you an edge ,But I take the point about a trailer Martin ,But it boils down to whether you want to sell or not I suppose.
Come february this machine will be a “project X”
I understand the reason for no credit ,But will payment by credit card be available ?

    Also
If a machine is sold from the website in my postcode and the customer wants it installed who does the installation .
me or the level one that also covers my area ?

    A couple of good questions…

    1) yes credit card payment will be no probs to us…

    2) The current situation is that we have several agents who cover the same areas. Level 1 at this stage is exactly that, at this stage. We realise that we will not have level one cover all over the counrty, therefore we are prepared to compromise where we have multiple level 2 and several good ones at that.

Its a question of us finding out who are prepared to put themselves out to help themselves and we will support that agent.
Multiple engineered agents are not neccessarily able to give the best service, that is the overiding criteria. Therefore who ever can supply the best service in the shortest time span wins the game. Even if you are a one man operation.

Bear with us as we go through the learning curve with you, whilst we are capable we might make the odd mistake, it’s how we put it right that will count.

Valid point about home delivery but….

It costs ! It’s a simple as that I’m afraid. Trying to convince a logistics company to navigate suburbia with a 40 ton truck doesn’t work, even if many of the delivery points will be to you guys trading from home, they don’t get it 😉

    We’re engineers (logical thinkers) 😀

My van is racked out and stacked out, it CAN accomodate a washing machine on its side but ONLY when the transit packaging is removed. No way would I deliver a brand new machine in this vehicle, hence the thoughts about getting a trailer! 😕

Very true Ken as there’s got to be half a ton of gear stacked in there!

I could at a push use the wifes car (hatchback) but the sill is very high so I will have to get that Charles Atlas book out of the library before attempting that delivery option 😆

I agree with Martin on the problem of transportation and delivery for us one man business although obviously Project X is going to be a great opportunity and I`m sure has a great future.

My idea was to try to team up with a level 1 agent in my area and agree a commission payment for myself for any sales I get as I go about my everyday business. The level 1 agent would then take care of the delivery and installation.

This would also benefit me from a VAT point of view as having once been registered I never want to go back to being a tax collector again.

Don`t know if this would be feasable or if a level 1 agent would be willing or interested in paying out a commission of £25-£30 per sale.

Any thoughts on this bright/stupid idea ❓

Now see Bryan, that’s using the structure to your advantage and, by working together, is exactly the intent of a lot of this.

Teamwork, bad and overabused word in business which is a shame because that’s how we’ve managed to accomplish a lot of what we have so far with UKW.

And I can rhyme off at least three or four Level 1’s that would be very interested in such a proposal.

    Yes 😀

As Ken has hinted at, there are quite a few Level 1 guys who have storage and are very willing to accomodate by holding a few for local collection.

When we all work together, any problem can be overcome on the whole 😉
