Governments can’t back down on carbon emission targets even though the theory behind them has been largely debunked.
The reason is that it is taxed and produces a revenue stream.
We shackle our own industries with excessive regulations yet allow imports from countries that ignore the rules.
It would not be too difficult to calculate how much carbon was released into the atmosphere for each piece of Chinese junk that lands on these shores and then apply a multiplier based on it’s short life span and tax it apropriateley.
All in the interest of saving the planet of course.

Actually… 😉
Environmental policies globally are in complete contradiction to politic.
Think about it.
They advocate using less blah, blah… when every country and government has the onus on it to show growth or they are complete failures and, head on a pike time looms large.
How do you show growth when you use less?
The model is inherently flawed if you look at it in that light, as we have seen in our own industry as, to show growth you buy up the competition or, once that avenue is exhausted you shorten the lifespan thereby increasing consumption.
Meanwhile politicians get derided for not “fixing” the economy (like they’re vets or something) when they largely have bugger all control over it and the actual overriding factors that drive it, mainly consumer demand from whatever area. So, they latch onto the “green industries” as a way to show growth and parade the fact that we lead the green industry charge and boas of the growth in that sector creating jobs yadda yadda.
TBH politicians aren’t in office long enough to actually do anything meaningful in that respect despite aspersions to the contrary.
Hence the embracing of green technologies, green industries, green power and green whatever else they can possibly find that meets the criteria. And, it fits with their timeline in terms of time in office if they can get a quick win, like turning Cumbria into a big wind farm where all the tourists see that UK plc is doing its bit.
But remember what I said, unintended consequence.
All the while its only shifting the pitch about, the goalposts are still in the same place. Everybody’s just too busy watching the goalposts to notice the pitch has altered.

That I like, well said, The job of the politician is a easy one, why do you think they ever go into politics, they are akin to comedians in the entertainment field, its money for old rope and of course you have to do very little and spend your time blaming what the other side done. Its a win win situation for them, arguing, laying blame, spouting lies, for you know it fours years has past
I would’nt trust any of them
