You know what, I’ve just started to get calls again
I was so depressed with the lack of work a year ago that I stopped all advertising cancelled yellow pages and stared doing other stuff, as and when the phone rang from old regular customers i’d go and do, but that crept down to 1 or 2 jobs a week.
Unfortunatly round there were so may “I will do fixy for you cheeply nice lady” (in my best polish accent) that it killed my business overnght.
I had a leaflet dropped through my door offering to fit brushes from £10, pumps £20 seals £20 bearings £50, I phoned the mobile and spoke to the “ENGINEER” said I had a hotpoint that wouldn’t spin and he told me £10 to fix.
I had customers phone up asking if I could compete with their prices and i’d explain the you get what you pay for and is he insured blah blah blah, but they were not interested.
So that was that, did somthing else and just did the odd call, but this last week i’ve not stopped, my biggest problem was getting spares as most had closed my accounts as I had not used them for so long.

According to the BBC news this morning renting a washing machine is now back in fashion due to the credit crunch. Even less work for me 😥

Showing signs of life here, just started picking up again. As dead as a dodo until two weeks ago, lets hope it stays busy.

Update… bearings gone but worse of all… she had this machine 20 years.. brother in law apparently plumbed it in for her… turned out the cold feed at machine end has been leaking ever since.. what a mess we were to discover.. new machine i will be quoting for…. trouble is, because of its location shes asking if there is a machine right hand opening but more so controls on left side of facia, anyone know if such a machine exists with left hand controls? never been asked for that before. 😕

The only manufacturer I know of with a right hand hinged door is Miele as for the left hand control bit not a clue. This Miele prestige plus has a more central control unit if it helps. Not the perfect solution I know 😉 but a compromise may be needed.HTH

Thats nowt, there was a poster on the public forums a year or so back who built a bicycle powered washer, based on an old Hotpoint machine. It was featured on the TV and he took it to events & shows all over the country.
Someone must know where the original post was.
