Give it a couple of years and you will struggle to find a manufacturer who produces a machine that you can fit new drum bearings and shaft.
There are two groups making money here,(been posted before I know) the manufactures producing crap and the recyclers recycling the crap.
Work is certainly on the downward spiral for me and can only see it getting worse, a great shame because as you have said before yourself the best way to recycle is to repair.

Or hows about a conventional tub fitted to a washer where the front nor back won’t come off and you have to take it out through the top. Well done Gorenje :rolls:

Na I don’t think like that Turbo.

We have until 2007 when IPR kicks in, then it’ll bite hard on those that have short lives and force prices up.

but its all true, at a time when many are encouraged to carry out ‘economical’ repairs,

To quote my feathered friend, P45, “Granvilles Petro Putty”. 😉

If it was a nail then surely the Indesit Company would say that it was customer misuse and quote for full cost of repair.

hmmm, thats true to a point, but if the customer says ‘get out a aint paying £200+’ then you’ll find many manufacturers will take the charge instead

All we need is a bit of budget and some gobby git to get the PR going.

Oh dear, what’s this, two gobby gits that happen to know a couple of good PR Agencies.

    Now for the budget…. 😉

No hotpnt, not you, no-one can accuse you of being shy or retiring. 😉

Both John and I push this agenda at every opportunity to anyone that will listen to be frank about it. Sean and Dave would but they just don’t have the time, so it’s left to John and I.

We do what we can given the constraints that we have, more on budget than anything else as, to be quite honest about it, UKW/ISE does not have unlimited resources at their disposal. To do anything meaningful you’re looking at a five figure number, albeit not a stupid one, but we just don’t have the cash to do it right now. Not that that stops us from being, shall we say, a bit pro-active.

We’ve brought the repairers case to the OFT, the DTi, the MMC, various parliamentarians including the MEPs that we can. We do a lot but keep quiet as a lot of the donkey work doesn’t pay off, on the odd occasion it does it’s very gratifying TBH.

The latest little quibble is over the implementation of the WEEE Directive and how it directly affects a lot of us.

But it’s the same old story, give us the tools for the job and we’ll get it done, meanwhile we do what we can with what we’ve got.

I thought the Hotpoint method was to do the repair for the labour only in this type of situation, but only if the customer signs up to a maintenance contract at the same time, blackmail I think its called. :rolls:

Sorry if this is going off on a tangent.

Turbo you missed out one other interested party who are making money, the government. They nail 17.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}VAT onto every aspect of the industry, bit cynical really when the are trying to convince the populous that we must do better for the environment. They are making a lot of money by letting the manufacturers produce crap that will only last a few years. 😯
