I came across this contraption today – Servis M9813W – washer dryer! 😕
The dryer makes a noise similar to a Harrier jump jet on final approach, a burning smell like Burger King’s chimney stack and leaks like the Hoover Dam.As luck would have it D&G have ‘written it off’ – much to the relief of its owner. After all it is 18 months old!…..what do you expect?

First thoughts, given I’ve never seen one…
What they’ve tried to do is invent a large capacity washer dryer. Because there’s no room at the top to mount the motor due to the increased outer tank size they’ve come up with this feat of engineering.
Just look how little room there is between the outer tank and the shell as well as the motor, even with the offset, to the deck.
I have to chuckle, I just Googled it and found this!
Maybe I’m not so stoopid after all.

Martin, I came across the same machine a couple of weeks ago, Fine example of Italian engineering, Not :P. This one had a seized fan blower bearing, and explained to Cust I Would have a go with the WD40 but if if it failed again don’t call me call the scrap man, As removing the blower housing looked a total Mare.

I’ve replaced one of those blower fan units, absolutely awful! Apart from it falling to pieces half the screws sheared off due to rust etc. Unfortunately ‘they’ wouldn’t write it off.
Good thing is we don’t cover the area where it is now 🙂

Whenever I get a phone call that mentions Servis, I politely inform them that If my grandmother was still alive and lived next door with a faulty Servis machine I would not go and look at it. Then I pass them on to an ex Comet,ex Servis engineer who lives nearby. I never get a single call back from him but it gets then off my back. 8)

C`mon now Jim , Servis machine not draining its water , I bet you`re there like a shot :)……..I know I am anyway. Broken door handles , door seals , modules , valves , blocked soap dispenser hose etc…..it`s money for old rope IMO.

I`m not saying Servis is a great make but much more straight forward proposition to repair than counting the flashes and watching timers rotate IMO.Each to their own I suppose.

I’m with Bryan here. It’s a too cut throat business to be able to pick and choose jobs to this degree (IMO).
If I didn’t do the poor quality machines (Indesit, Servis etc) It would halve my workload.

Halve it? It’s getting to the point now where if you didn’t take on the jobs you didn’t really want to do, or the ones where you didn’t know what sort of machine you were going to find when you got there, you wouldn’t be doing any work at all. 🙁
But I agree with Bryan as well. At least when you go out to a Servis washing machine you usually know more or less what’s going to be wrong with it before you get there, and that most of the time it won’t be that difficult to repair. Even the drum bearing jobs on a lot of them are easy. Might be worth re-considering your policy and trying one Jim….. 😆Re: Servis ‘contraption’
Its a long story, going back almost 28 years which I won’t bore you with, long before the Italians dragged Servis into the mire, along with Hoover & Hotpoint. 😥
I swore at the time that I would never touch another Servis machine and if nothing else, I have been true to my word.
I have fortunately been lucky enough to keep busy throughout the past 28 years and at my time of life I am looking to ‘take my foot of the gas’ a little, and I can just about, 😉 afford the luxury of choosing what I do and do not repair. 8)

Jim.You’re lucky; wish I could 🙁 . As I said, I’m finding that luxury gradually disappearing as the machines get harder to diagnose/repair. Although I must say I do turn down some new customers with integrated dishwashers!
I’m looking forward to hearing the long story about you and Servis 😯 Are you going to the next meeting? You can tell me while we’re sitting waiting for Cher 😀
