The incoming water pressure holds the valve shut – if the taps don’t quite shut they could weep water in. Back flow from the sink is one option – don’t forget syphoning back from the stand pipe if the pipe is rammed all the way down and it’s a low point in the plumbing.
But, hey! It’s a Servis, so anything could be happening.

You can buy an anti-syphon device that you splice into the drain hose. B&Q, :eeek:, sometimes have them. I’ve had one in stock for about 8 years and never had occasion to use it as raising hose usually solves flowback.

Why not disconect the fill hoses altogether and eleminate the water valves or taps as the sorce of the problem then just concentrate on back draining from the sink or visa versa – I know it means two calls but at least you are sure where the problem lies. 🙂

If its clean water in drum overnight = fill valve/s weeping
If its dirty water in drum overnight = backfill from sinkGreg

Sounds more like sink return or one articulate urinary trick by one boxer dog 😆

I asked the customer to remove sump filter and then run tap in sink.
He said that when the tap was running he could see water flowing out of the sump.
Tried B&Q but they don’t stock the anti syphon valves.
There was one advertised on ebay a while back that came from Wickes.
I also noticed that the self bore kits from Qualtex have a anti syphon valve.
Thanks for the suggestions.February 9, 2006 at 10:24 am #163494leavemetogetonwithit

This shouldn’t require an anti-syphon device, IYAM. Just needs the hose tied up a bit before it reaches the sink waste. Brilliant idea for diagnosis, BTW; must remember that one.
