Okay, this was discussed in the subscriber forum a week or so ago and there’s no issues from any members thus far so here’s what it’s all about…

We have installed a full blown e-commerce shop for UKW, you can’t see it yet as we’ve not made it live yet. It will sell some high volume spares at above normal expected retail, in other words it won’t be as cheap as any of you guys I should expect. But if customers want the convienence of online shopping then they pony up, simple really.

But for subscribers it gets a bit better… 😈

They can sell using their UKW reference number to track stock, any old stock they have to either the trade or the public and UKW will take a commision on that to go into the pot. So, you guys get money for old stuff and in turn it further feeds funding to UKW. Since we all have old c**p lying around that no doubt someone somewhere needs and we can’t get shot of it I think this is a good plan and most people seem to agree.

We do have other ideas of things that we can do with this in time, but this is enough to be going on with for now I think.

    Re: Shop@

This was the original post on this in the subscriber forum:

I was thining that with the advent of the shop module going live we could maybe move some old stock for people fairly easily. We’ll take the order for it and then just tell you who to send it too, be that trade or otherwise.

What you need to do is the following:

Work out a trade price (in case and fellow UKW member wants the part)

Add 35{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} MARK UP to that price, if you don’t know how to add a mark up properly then ask!

A photo if possible of the part

    Trade will get list less 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, UKW gets 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}

Retail you get list less 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for UKW coffers

You will need to give a brief description and a general condition of the part as well as the details of what it’s for. The reason for that is that Google will index the pages so, hopefully, any search on Google etc will turn up the page so the better the description the better the chance of flogging it.

Anyway, if you dead stock you want to move then email it to me and I’ll get it listed on the shop module and just maybe turn some of the old crap you have into cash, that can’t be bad can it?

I need to think this out a bit more and get some feedback from you guys on it but to me it’s manna from heaven to turn old crap into hard cash! And, it’s not really costing anything for you to do it either if it was dead stock anyway.

We have moved on a bit from that in many ways and the subject is still fluid in many regards.

It has been agreed that the only way that we can track the stock is by using the subscriber references to do it, we can also input the amount of stock there etc.. Obviously this will mean multiple dispatch points and it gets a bit complex to manage in some ways, but I think we can do it relatively easily.

To give product in for submission we’ve decided that a maximum of 10 items at a time is enough as it is time consuming to enter stock on fro we poor admin bods . 😉 We will need as much detail as you can give to maximise the chances of a sale and the original part number is a must a photo would be cracking as people like to see what they’re buying.

You also have to take into account the condition of the product, we really don’t want recon stuff on there, just dead stock that you haven’t got a home for.

However, I was thinking about the trade discount structure and I think I’ve come up with an easy way to offer different discounts on different items in a simple and effective way that only the users will suss. Sometimes I have my moments, but I need to look into it a bit further.

For now we will not be able to offer any credit terms or accounts for anyone at all, sorry, but that means administration and all that malarky which means costs and the object is to reduce costs and turn dead shelf space into folding money, not cost you money. It may become viable at some point but, for now, I can’t see that being workable.

    Re: Shop@

How to calculate mark up (I forgot to post this) from the Germans as calculators don’t do this correctly…

To check your calculation say you add 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to a price then most of us would rattle the figure into a calculator and go “+” then “20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}=” which is wrong. If you take the new figure and subtract 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} you’ll actually come back to under your buying price, if you don’t believe me try it.

To get a true mark up take the 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} away from 0.0, so for 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} you get 0.8 or for 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} you get 0.85 or 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} it’s 0.75 , if you see what I mean and divide the buying cost by that. So to work out a true 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark up on a timer at £57.34 you would type into the calculator:

    57.34 / 0.8 = XX.XX x17.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} + = and that gives you VAT inclusive.

This came from the likes of AEG (when it was AEG) as the method to work out margins as a true percentage of the total sales cost and, whilst it doesn’t make a huge difference on spares due to the amounts in question normally, if you sell appliances it does.

    Re: Shop@

Sorry to confuse the issue, but surely this way is to calculate a 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} or whatever mark up from the starting point of the retail or label price. a 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark up is 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the trade price or whatever your paid for it, ie. trade price X20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}+=. isnt it? Of course, if you subtract 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} from the final price it will come in less than the trade price as you are calculating 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the higher figure rather than the starting figure.
In the same way that working out the amount of vat on a vat inclusive price is not just a matter of x17.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} -.

AEG, when they were AEG did do things a bit complicated I know, like putting 2 timers in a washing machine when one surely would have done but this is something else.

Ah but this is for working out a mark up where there is no retail to work from or when someone says “mark up by XX{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}”. If you do it that way then when you reverse it then you come back to the buying price, not a lower figure.

Yes, to take off the true VAT content divide by 1.175 and it’s always right, simple.

What do I know, it’s German, it’s efficient and it works. 😉

Oh and that was done in the days when AEG was AEG and not a cheap badged (or is that bodged ;)) effort.

    Re: Shop@

hey, that was my 200th post, dont I get another star or sumfink!

I still say 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark up is just that 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on top of the figure you paid for it to do it the other way is gonna be more than 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. anyhow, I ll ask my 9year old son when he goes to KUMON next week.

I know its late on a Friday night and its been a week of more *!!!* calls than usual but am I missing the point?, to remove Vat content you simply deduct 14.894{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} from the vat inclusive price

Nah, K’s right – get the calculator out and play! 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off a bigger number gives you a different answer than adding 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} onto a smaller number.

    AND I didn’t get a star for 200 either!

Okay then, I’ll stick another rank in if you like just give me a name for it.

No chance of another star though, the five stars are for the five star admins only! 😆

Aghh! we all know that, No one is disagreeing with that. We are talking mark up of a known cost price here!
As for the vat, I am sure we all have calculators with tax – and + buttons on.
and are the Sissor Sisters crap or what.

    Re: Ranks

This is the current system, it’s not UKW specific BTW, it’s a standard for this type of forum I believe 😀

    UKW New User 1
    UKW Regular User 10
    UKW Forum Regular 25
    UKW Top Poster 50
    UKW Trooper 75
    UKW Super Poster 100
    UKW Super User 500

Dunno how the stars work though 😕

Oh alright then, I’m off to bed before I get myself into more trouble! 😀

I’ll see what I can **** (make a mess of) up tomorrow, or today before some smart person corrects me again. 😉

    So, to recap…

    5 Stars is admin
6 Stars is me for some unexplained reason! 😆
