I would have done that but there was more to meet to the eye. It was not a simple case of draining the machine and open the door for her.
The plugs for both washer and tumble dryer were dangerous and loose. The lady offered her dirty old plugs from her kitchen drawer for me to rewire it onto. I feel that I have to draw a line, I insisted that a brand new plug is safer and I will not continue unless the plugs are replaced. This was when they started to quibble over the costs.
I admit it was a bit of a relief when I walked out. This household is not of a limited means, in fact it was in a the wealthiest part of the area. Marble floor, state of the art Samsung fridge/freezer and 90cm induction hob, etc.

No, you misunderstood my post, I was commenting on the fact that twicknik thought that Samsung meant high class area/ household . 😉

These damn fridges cost in excess of £800 and no one in their right mind would spend that kind of money on these dreadful glossy box that are unsuitable for British house let alone Council houses and middle class 1930’s semi with tiny kitchen and what on earth those ice boxes for (?). What’s wrong with ice cube tray?
Anyway that’s why I call them high ends as my high end fridge freezer is a typical 60cm by 1.7m Leibherr (brand new with 2 years guarantee) a bargain at £400 by pulling few strings in the trade. However these Samsung should remain firmly in US hence the name “American Fridge Freezers”.

The Samsung American Style Fridge Freezer is the best thing invented.
Gives me plenty of work repairing. Highly recommended.

Agreed any appliance that costs a fair bit,is to bulky for the customer to replace by simply nipping down to currys and squeeze a replacement into the family hatch back and goes wrong every now and then is surely what we are all craving for 🙂

I’ve just had a cheque payment stopped by a customer who we called to. She is a fair way away from us, we called gave her an estimate and charged our call out fee as a deposit on the parts we had to order. About half an hour later she rang and said another company had called there had the parts required and she wanted to cancel the part. She had been told if she changed her mind she would still be charged for a call out.
Rang her this morning asked her why her cheque had been stopped, she refused us any payment and said she is not going to pay twice, why should she! We did not repair it another company did and she has paid them.
Not sure if it’s worth going to the small claims court or better write it off.

Breach of contract. You can formally write to her giving her number of days to settle otherwise you will take it to small claims court and she would be liable to pay for all the costs.
Providing you have the proofs?

I bet there never was another company involved, she was just after a free diagnosis so she could fix it herself. It would be interesting to see the other companies invoice, not that its relevant to the situation.

Stopped cheques are serious and the normal rules of debt collection no longer apply irrespective of the amount.
You must keep the original stopped cheque as evidence.
If you have it back from the bank you can either:
Go to court obtain the judgement and send in the bailiffs as she has no legal right to defend her action; or
Go to the police and claim fraud.
I am not joking, a stopped cheque is an act if fraud under the Bills of Exchange Act 1887!
Never ever bounce a cheque! If it won’t be paid, don’t issue it in the first place!

Just curious, has anyone reported fraud to the police over stopped cheques? Love to know the outcome of it. The prospect of a customer being charged with fraud, you need strong evidence for this such as proof of contracts.
How much was the cheque by the way?

Not so, fraud is a criminal act (e.g theft or deception) whereas a stopped cheque purely a civil matter(contractual dispute)….!
