smegging-hell
Participantwhen i found this forum i felt as though i’d been on a quest to find the holy grail, and succeeded.
my smeg dishwasher has stopped working. just stopped. used it last night, no problem. emptied it today, filled it rapidly, shut the door, pressed the on button. nothing. no power. no lights. no way to wash dishes except in the sink. perish the thought.
i’ve had the good gumption to check the fuse and it’s fine.
the way the dishwasher is installed means it’s difficult to get access except from the front.
as the fickle hand of fate oft times deals the cards, my warranty ran out on the 29th dec07. oh joy of joys. and the mechanic at the local garage told me this morning that the brake pads have gone in my car.
and so my new year wish has changed, i no longer aspire to get through an episode of the simpsons without craving beer and donuts, this year i wish for an end to this random smegging nightmare. can someone help. pleaseJanuary 2, 2008 at 9:25 pm #238365Penguin45

Might be worth a call to SMEG and explain what has happened – they are one of the more sympathetic manufacturers.
Beyond that, it’s difficult to offer any practical advice without the model number.

Popular fault on some models is the burning out of the on/off switch.
Without a model number its hard to be fully certain 😉Greg

Usually on a sticker on the left or the right of the door inner side.

thanks for pointing out where the model number was….
it is a smeg DF 612 SE type 10054.
any help diagnosing what might have caused a power loss would be muchly appreciated.
thanks.January 7, 2008 at 7:51 pm #238370Simon46

Is there Power at THAT plug socket?

absolutely. i recognise that my not noticing the model label straight off the bat might lead one to think that i’m perhaps not the sharpest tool in the box, but i checked the fuse in the plug and the power supply to the socket. twice.

Power switch, mains suppressor, broken wiring in door (unusual) or dead computer board are all possible suspects.

thanks.
how can i narrow it down? or do i have to get a man in?January 7, 2008 at 9:09 pm #238374Penguin45
ParticipantRe: smeg dishwasher power loss
Mains suppressor is likely to have exploded, so visual inspection may be enough there. Power switch is plastic and can melt – test meter still the best way of checking for sure. If the computer board has blown there may be visible damage; otherwise there is no way to be sure if it has failed or not.
If you’re unsure, use the repairs@ link below for a UKW engineer in your area.

I have just had a very similar problem with my Smeg dishwasher (model number DF410SDX). When I turned it on only the “no salt” indicator lit up, not even the power indicator. I refilled it with salt and tried again and this time no indicators or beeps or any sign of life.
I’ve checked the power socket, plug fuse and that power is getting to the switch in the door. A brief visual inspection shows no signs of anything wrong.
Any advice? Smegging-hell, did you get any further with your problem?
Cheers for any help.

Hi,
My Smeg dishwasher (model DF410SDX) has just packed in with similar problem to the one reported on Jan 17th. I switch on the power and I get the indicators for low salt and low rinse aid lighting up but the power light doesn’t come on and nothing seems to work (can’t start any of the programs).
This machine is just over a year old so just out of warranty (how typical!) Is this a common problem with this model?
stevemad – did you find a fix? Any suggestions appreciated but I’m guessing the electronics have blown up which probably isn’t going to be cheap to fix.
