Participanthi guys went to see the smeg dishwasher today when put on would just keep the pump running removed from unit and tipped back no water came out as i thought the anti flood had actived the pump removed filter and cleaned under the little black flap tried again would start to fill then activate the pump checked metering tank could see the water come into the metering tank but when filled half way up would bring in pump water would go up one of the channels in the metering tank like a blow off on a centrial heating tank and dribble down is it the bribbling down that is keeping the pump running turned water off to releave pressure reconnected again but if i cut back on the water pressure went ok what is you thoughts thanks fasetester 😕 🙂

From memory these don’t like high water pressure ,A while ago if you ordered a PCB it came with a valve restrictor !.
Somtimes the tube behind the non return flap gets blocked and does wierd things .

Participantthanks lawrence for your reply where is the none return flap in the smeg even when i removed the main feed hose from the metering tank and put it in a dish the water would flow for a short time and then stop as i said it would run ok with the pressure turned down is it ok to leave the pressure turned down so that it runs thanks fasetester 🙂

Depending on software, these dishwashers either do a continuous pump with intermittent bursts of fill for a good 2/3 minutes before the fill proper starts or, the other version is intermiittent fill and intermittent pump for a few minutes. You need to let it complete this sequence before diagnosing the problem.
What I meant by “just off boiling water” is really hot water but not quite boiling. 😉
the non return valve is either in the pump outlet or in the inlet of the pump where it pushes into the sump.
the Coil reference referred to the dispesner coil.Judging by your description its a classic E2 fault, remove the meetering tank/air break, its only 2 screws and the breather ring inside and give it a good clean, especially the passage through the softner which ends up at the flap at the back of the sump.

Participantthanks eastmark for your reply so the smeg can fill and empy for 2 to 3 minutes before starting a programe so you have to wait before deciding if there is a fault should the householder not know that who is using the machine should the meetering tank when it is filling send some water up a channel like a blow off then like spit some water out of it and go down another channel the only way i could get it to work was cut back on the mains pressure so that it would fill and carry on the program the woman said it had not worked like that for a good while it would start and after a while stop and beep after i cleaned out under the black flap and checked the meetering tank for flow even when i removed the main hose to the meetering tank and let it flow into a basin the valve would activate and then stop after a min or so what is your thoughts on turning down the water pressure eastmark thank fasetester 😕 😳

Fase, you’ve got the tech info, you’ve got input from a number of people – now you have to sit down and work it out. Failing that, bring it to the next UKW meeting and we’ll have a session on it. Otherwise, do the honest thing by your customer and say “I can’t do it”. I’ve had to a few times, and the customer usually appreciates your honesty.
