ParticipantEvening Gents
I have been repairing washing machines and dryers for over 30 years but after a short course on electric cookers/hobs, I have begun repairing these for mainly existing customers. I was asked to look at the above Range cooker today. The main fan oven has a number of function settings but apart from the Eco (grill and lower element with fan) and Circular (fan and fan element), none of the other oven functions work (The hob and second, smaller oven work fine.) If any other main oven function is selected, after 3-4 seconds, a series of quick, regular bleeps are emitted and the oven shuts off?
I have tested the various stats and all seem ok. The elements all test out too. I’m leaning towards the module? (A visual examination of the board and wiring connections doesn’t show any obvious issues.)
Any pointers gratefully accepted!November 15, 2018 at 10:18 pm #459105electrofix
Moderatorit looks like this unit has a door switch and a door lock are both operating correctly ?

KeymasterYup, Dave is right, check that as they changed it as well from a plastic to metal pin to help durability.
Also if that happens when the oven is selected it’s extremely unlikely to be the board/s as they should only come into play when the hob is energised, not either oven.
So clock, outside chance, door switch a fair bet, energy regs for the oven and switch also possibles.

ParticipantThank you for the comments Dave and Ken. The oven does indeed have a door switch but that does seem to be working? Also if the switch was faulty, why would it allow two of the oven functions to work? I did see a locking mechanism, tbh, never seen this on an oven before. How do they work and what affect will it have on the operation of the oven? As you can see, lacking a little experience in these complicated Ranges so really appreciate your thoughts.

ParticipantGood Evening Gents.
I ordered the door switch and the door locking mechanism from Smeg. I was able to get back the customer today and fit them. Unfortunately the original fault is still present? Any other suggestions, wiring diagrams etc.? I have very little experience on these Smeg ranges.
Thank you in advance.

Moderatorunfortunately you have picked a make with low tech support, not sure if anyone has smeg tech access but all I can get is parts breakdown

KeymasterHave you checked the selector switches?

ParticipantFrom experience, the first place I would look would be the selector switch. Most probably a burnt or overheating contact, usually caused by a loose connector.

ModeratorI do the warranty work for Smeg it’s the left hand oven you are having trouble with is it? This is control by the pcb 3 possible causes pcb sensing probe that sits in grill element or the tocs. If this is a paying customer I would tell them to go back to Smeg they will do a repair including parts for just over £100.00 if this was me I’d walk away Kai

ParticipantThanks Gents. The function selector switch is a pcb, not a mechanical type. I will plug away at it and get to the bottom though! I have checked the TOCs and seem ok, so the sensing probe is a possibility. Other than that I’m looking at the module still. I’ll let you know how I get on! Thanks all for your ideas!

Moderatorfrom what I can see the selector switch is a potentiometer . if this is correct is it working correctly ?

ParticipantBoard and sensing probe on their way to me, switch out of stock. I’ll let you know the outcome!
Thank you allDecember 6, 2018 at 7:06 pm #459118kaibart
ModeratorMake sure that the connection for the probe is in exactly the same place as I’ve had loads of them boards wrong from Smeg themselves you could have had a quick check of probe buy cutting back the shelving and checking the braids
