The power of Google is what drives the public to find UKW half the time, hence the ammount of Diplomat and Indesit requests.
Diplomat is actually OK stuff on the whole, just no-one (public) knows what it is when they move in to a new house or change houses and the stuff is laready there installed.
There are very few repairs lost I don’t think, many are straight away refered to repairs@ and some will carry on regardless of what we tell them so they’re a lost cause anyway. What it does do and Andy2 pointed it out earlier, it raises the profile of the Independant engineer in the public eye, so when they do need a repair done, they will (hopefully) phone one of us, use repairs@ instead of phoning the manufacturer 🙂

Ahhh yes!!!
And it’s another way to show the public that we’re not money-grabbibng cowboys. A way to show them we know what we are doing and give them conifence to ring an engineer.

KeymasterIndeed GB, one of the main aims of UKW and, hopefully, it’s working. 😉

Does anyone else feel slightly annoyed by this one http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … 0&postdays
He`s probably got the original engineer to give him a free estimate , watched every move he made , then using the diagnosis decides he`ll try and save £30.
At the end he doesn`t really say thanks but he`s celebrating his engineerless £30 saving.
Don`t mean to be nasty and I know free estimates are another issue but can`t really wish this guy good luck.Bryan

I was more annoyed at the price that EMW (or QER were going to) sold it for, that’s the last time I make any reference to either of them in the public forums. Basically they are sellling the modules to the public at trade prices 🙁

Would you mind having a read of this thread please:

Where it is quite clear a member of the public has no intention of paying for an engineer we try to either sell the correct spare and advise them on safety etc or as in this case recommend where to go and buy the part. I try, so as not to appear to recommend one particular company and give a choice.
My concern here is that EMW sold a reconditioned module to this guy for £30 !! Which is the same price as I would pay as an account holder, it undercuts the engineer’s price by a large margin.
I’d appreciate your comments please.
Thanks and regards.

See what they say 🙂

It really gets my goat!
I’ve got to be careful talking to Servis customers. Appartly I swear and scoff alot at them. I don’t know, I just see a white-hot flash of fury whenever someone says ‘Servis’.
Seriously though, I’ve found that if you talk to them calmly, and point out the errors of their purchase, you can convince them to buy a quality product next time.
Speaking of which…..

Here’s what they say:
Dave,
Thanks for your note. I’ve been on holiday until yesterday. In the
pre-internet past, we could charge different prices for retail sales but it
creates an impossible situation when you have a website. We do charge a
higher ‘returned unwanted’ fee for retail (£8+vat as opposed to £4 for
regular trade customers) but that’s as far as we can go. Retail sales are
not my favourite as the return rate is high !
Regards
Tony
EMWMake of that what you will but I for one will not be pointing the public towards them any longer 😉
I understand the point about the website but a simple log in for trade customers with the reduced price would solve that problem.

Dave,
Obviously you have read my post in the trade Spares forum by now on this? I could add an interesting poll to it if you like?

It strikes me as a complete no brainer. Charge Joe Public at least £15.00 more per item, on a non returnable basis. ( their fault if they misdiagnose). More profit for the module/timer repairers. That would cover the cost of a separate trade only section in one order.
That is, if it is a much of nuisance selling to them as Tony would have us believe. 😉

Quite 😉
Well, he’s obviously read it as he was online earlier but no reply 🙂
They are also in the “weblinks” section under trade spares but anyone can see those, I wonder how many sales they are making from that to the public ???
“Play ball” or delete the link is my opinion, they have a right of reply and not responded in a positive manner…..
Thoughts please ?

Compromise perhaps? Put the ads into trade suppliers only; handle recon stuff through spares@ – put a mark-up on for profit and handling. Tony doesn’t really want the retail work – might even send out direct under plain label if you asked him.
Have to get the public posters to stop posting the links (mea culpe) though.
Chris.
