ParticipantI’ve just got an invoice in the post for ‘UK Whitegoods subscription’ so does this mean the Subs Forum is still alive and well and up for continued support? π

Must admit I’m a tad confused, probably due to age.
I have had the same, and yes I’m ready to pay. Do I assume the old regime of subscribersβ forum is absorbed by the UKW Trade Association?
Any chance of resurrection? I liked being part of an elite group, and miss the fine distinction that was within that area.

KeymasterNo, it’s the stock code that was used that we didn’t edit. π
The plan was to split the TA away to separate accounts as, TBH, that would have suited me better but alas, there has been no time to do it the past month or so. π
If people really, really want a separate subs forum then I don’t see why it can’t be done but I’d rather not do it right now. I have this plan you see… π

Do we need to stump up the Β£75 first to find out what your plan is? Or will the money just go into the WTA pot?
I too have a plan but I don’t want any money from anyone first to tell you and my colleagues of it.
But, I must insist, after you please Ken……………. π

Whilst you are trying to sort that out, would it be possible for some of the subs to be used to pay for the September meeting buffet. WTA is now nearly 1 year old and it might be a nice gesture π

What?
Did I mention money other than the WTA thing? Sorry Martin, that reads as if I’m trying to elicit money out you guys and nothing could be further from the truth.
I don’t want money for access to UKW, never have, never will. I thought that was made abundantly clear on more than several occasions.
If the users want an area that’s closed to all but paid members (of whatever group) I’m not averse to providing it and even admin’ing and accounting it FREE OF CHARGE as I have had UKW do for the TA, not a problem at all. But I don’t want any money from the repairers unless we provide something more substantive than a bit of webspace for them as that doesn’t cost me a bean to provide other than the time it takes. Where I can provide that time for free, be it me or staff/account time, I do so and don’t pass on that cost just as I didn’t for the subs or, when it migrated, the WTA. UKW picks up the tab for it to be done.
As I have said in the past, we do this for other people such as manufacturers and other parties, it’s a part of what we do, on a cost basis. But, for UKW members (i.e. repairers) it is provided FOC as it is and, will likely remain, my opinion that the repairers, especially sole traders, are the very people that cannot afford to pay for such things. Manufacturers, insurers etc. can. It’s that simple for me.
So if the users, like yourself and Alex or whoever else on here, wants a closed area that’s just fine by me. You set the criteria and the cost, if there is to be any, not me and not UKW. All UKW does is implement it, admin it and account for it.
But heh, if you’ve a problem with getting all that for free then please feel free to explain to me what’s unfair about it.
All my plan involves is reducing the admin by automating the process to make it a LOT easier to implement, account for and admin as well as improving the feature set but, not at a cost to members. My job is to work out how to do that.
Buffet thing Ian, no problem with me but I will need approximate numbers to get it sorted.

K.Just thought there was a differential between the TA and the subscribers. I came into that sector as a subscriber because I wanted to offer a sum towards being a member, and if there was anything that came on the back of it, that would be a bonus.
I think the best thing is to let it rest.

It’s not a problem at all Alex.
I was just a bit miffed as to Martin’s inference or, perceived inference, that UKW or specifically, I, was somehow out to fleece guys.
If there is a call for a private area it can be provided with whatever parameters are required within technical restraints.

Am I reading this correctly?
You’re suggesting that the subscribers/WTA fund pays for a buffet for UKW members who may never have contributed to this fund :?.Nah, I must be mis-reading this π―

BryanHear Hear!
May I suggest instead of a full UKW meeting in the Early Spring, have a T.A. meeting at Sibson, and then if it is felt appropriate to utilise funds, at least those that have provided could benefit. If then for example any one of us did not make it for whatever reason, we cannot carp regards how the funds were utilised as we all are payers into the kitty, and we were the ones invited.

The food on the table should be accompanied by a TA application form – they say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach……. π May be able to enlist more to the cause!!

Remarkable and uncharitable whilst I appreciate the sentiment we are trying to expand our membership and a goodwill gesture will always be remembered. Ken and I had a chat about the food and future meeting and this point will be brought up at the meeting. Further, I don’t recall any complaints about payment for the free meals in the past and the money came from somewhere π I am trying to reduce the time that is wasted whilst the Millers sorts out the orders, this is one way around it. The other is that at the start of the meeting a menu sheet is given to those that attend, this is filled in by the attendee and handed to the kitchen and then all food is ready for say 1PM lunch.

For the record, no complaints or anti – charity sentiments here……. π Anything that increases membership is worth doing. Have we got a draft application form for WTA that could be “knocking around” at the meeting?

As the funding has now switched from a UKW subscribers to a WTA fund may I ask if the WTA is a separate and VAT registered organisation?

KeymasterRe: Subscription?
Invoicing had to go through UKW again this time and, part of the reason it was late, is that I’ve been trying to get the TA set up as a TA proper making, I think, VAT exempt. It has not been possible to do that as quickly as I wanted.
Separate bank account is in place. Separate accounts are in progress.
But, for this time around it had to be done through UKW or not at all and as we are VAT registered there was no alternative but to charge it. I checked with the local VAT inspector who I was talking to last week if we could escape it under the circumstances and was told, flatly, no.
It was a choice between getting the invoices out now or not for at least another month or two.
