KeymasterBRUTAL POST – LOADS OF THOSE NASTY SWEARY WORDS
It struck me tonight that this is getting, not to put too fine a point on it, fucking ridiculous with the whole DASA/UKW thing. UKW is not an enemy of DASA and DASA is not an enemy of UKW.
Now can we please all stop fucking about and just get on with what needs done, who does it is entirely irrelevant.
TBH I’m fucking sick fed up with the comparison between the two when they are not disimilar in some respects and worlds apart on others. DASA has a place as the happy smiley face for manufacturers and the likes as they won’t rock the boat. UKW on the other hand would put the fucker in a wind tunnel and turn it up to max!
DASA wants to sit on the fence and remain “respectable”, I don’t subscribe to that view entirely and I do so enjoy stirring the shit on occasion as you may have noticed. 😉
For the other council members that know me a bit better than most in here the whole point of poking and prodding in the DASA forums is to stir it up, get interest if there’s any to get in DASA and get them motivated to do something! And it’s so much better and effective that pleading for someone to send them an email!
There’s too much apathy in this trade, they all need a kick up the arse and a bit of motivation instilled into them whether they like it or not and, that goes for UKW as well as DASA. In many ways both share the same problems and issues and, if DASA does survive the next couple of years in whatever form, then there may well be a call for it at that point but, as Mark rightly pointed out, it has neither the numbers or the clout to truly make a difference.
So here’s an idea and feel free to shoot it down if you want, why can’t we pass off whatever to the best suited to deal with it? For example, DASA is better at dealing with the bits of paper, UKW is better at making people sit up and pay attention to issues we want noticed. Why not use the strengths of each to the best advantage of everyone? That, to me at least, makes a helluva lot of sense.
Which brings me nicely to CORGI. Those bastards have fucked us over good and proper, time for payback. I have already set the political wheels in motion with one of the major parties, the other to will be addressed in time, fuck this noncing about with jumped up civil servants full of their own bullshit, get it on the political agenda and make a noise. To that end I want an assurance that I will have a bit of support from DASA as well as all the others to take these fuckers to task and, trust me, I’m only just getting warmed up for a long fight on this. But it’s one worth fighting IMO.
DASA has to change a bit more I feel, particularly the subscriptions and COP to make it more accessible to more in the industry but it also need a leader or at the very least a figurehead that people can rally to. Is there any strength in running it as a “hobby” for someone? Is that even feasable? After all, it may not pay much in the short term as a wage but it may pay off in the long run and, the point is this, it has to be someone that cares about the industry and has an intimate knowledge of it which narrows the field tremendously.
Or is there any merit in that idea expanded upon and a “director” for want of a better term, being appointed every 2 years or something? AMDEA and RETRA have used that to great effect for many years, what can’t DASA?
Some food for thought.
And if it’s utter bollocks then I should be banned from a keyboard whilst drinking vodka! 😆

Is’nt this the arrangement that was meant by the agreement of DASA & UK WHITEGOODS working more closely together.
DASA will never be able to react as quickly as UKW over topic’s, by the very nature of the two different structures of their respective organisations.
UKW does not need to find a consensus before it reacts to any given situation. It gives a platform and instant access to any member with concerns over a particular issue. We may all think that it is very democratic but only in so much that it allows free speach.
It is mainly driven by it’s contributors and editors, and although viewed by thousands as the hit indicators show it is therefore still only the particular opinions of a small section of our industry.
And let’s face it, not all members of UKW could be regarded as stalwart friends we all know that repeated attempts for access are made by what we would consider to be our natural opposition. Who are using the site as a barometer just to see what they can and cant get away with. Some of them would even be rejoycing in the streets if this site were no more.
DASA may be slow but it is still here 30 odd years and two generations of the Watt family futher on. It shares many of the same concerns that UKW does and some people find that continuity and tradition reassuring.
It’s a little bit like the tale of the ‘ Hare & the Tortoise ‘ so let’s remember that tenacious plodding can also bring it’s rewards.
The main logg jam from DASA has been removed and a new determination is emerging, so let’s give it a chance.
You, and the UKW team have given of your time and effort to help in it’s relaunch, in designing and compiling the first Edition of Orbit in years and for that fact alone Dasa should be able to see that it is constuctive critisium you are trying to offer. I suppose we all need a bomb under us from time to time.
Regards as ever Del

What needs to be done is to remove the back stabbing, double standards and two faced approach as well as the bitching etc. that goes on in DASA. You can’t say it isn’t there, it bloody well is.
I am still pissed off regards this statement from Scoggs that I gained extra work through being a member. To date Ive heard bugger all from the DASA politboro.
They seem to sit there in their ivory towers whilst all crumbles around them. Yes we have to move forward now C.H. is gone, but we need to work together and the esteemed leaders need to recognise why it has gone tits up & not try and apportion blame or come up with stupid unqualified comments.
I’m still awaiting their answer regards what this work is that DASA found me. I asume there isn’t one? therefore the apology is becoming overdue.

ParticipantAgreed Ken, we are supposed to supporting the independants against the ‘tyranny’ of the manufacturers and insurance companies, not fighting each other.

trouble is there are one or two I won’t trust ever again, as I have learnt to my cost. If those that run Dasa want to remain a trade association then ok, let Dasa get on with it. Personally I will be directing my efforts into UKW and where we see UKW being in two years from now, I’ve no arguments with Dasa or any of its members, they can join both camps if they wish and have the best of both worlds. However lets not mince words boys…Scott spoke out of turn against UKW according to my info….so he can fuck right off and take the quisling with him..

KeymasterYep, he did. Probably on this occasion because he took the hump as I told him off for being a twat.

KeymasterTotally agree with your comments in your top posting Ken and it seems to be having some effect
July 27, 2004 at 6:29 pm #114516kwatt
KeymasterI hope it does have some effect, I hope it’s a positive move. Whilst much can be dealt with at meeetings and they can be productive you have to carry that forward and that’s where DASA has been failing for the large part. Instead of building and moving forward it has floundered for years on end, wallowing in its own self-pity. It’s time to either pull out of that or call it a day IMO.
Alex also has a point about the internal politics of DASA and that will be a tough nut to crack in all honesty. The only way I can see is to appoint a leader, in whatever capacity and define the role fully with the responsibilities clearly detailed. This may get rid of some of the personal agendas to a degree and make DASA more open.
So now it comes down to what we’re going to do with it?

Please don’t include me in the “we”.
I neither have the time nor the inclination to do anything else for/with DASA.
Call me cynical or impatient or both, but this is going round in circles.
Critisism and lively debate creates a new positiveness, new positiveness creates a flurry of activity and general expectation, then fuck all happens.
I’m out of it and will not be renewing my membership or attending any further meetings.
Good luck DASA if it survives, I’ll come back and join, I’ve done my bit to try and help this time round, but it’s like trying to climb out of a bottomless pit IMO, and I can’t see any light.

I think I’ve made it more than clear where I stand in all this.
I am happy to see where they go with recruiting a replacement for C.H. and if it is the right person, then I will support him.
As things stand though, and considering they (DASA) are happy in their own sweet knowledge that they alone got us the MFI work and deserve ALL the credit, then I’m not happy to renew. I know who helped broker that deal, and as it happened it didn’t make any difference to me, except an increase in the rate of £1, and that was overdue anyway.
I will wait & see who they have heading the team and hope that some of the existing top brass are booted out. I say no more on that & will leave you to speculate who I may mean.
To back up my concerns etc. and to demonstrate my integrity on the subject, I will endeavor to attend the AGM in York.

Oh, handbags at dawn on this lot! :rotfl:
Seriously though, do we all need to squabble over this stuff?
Dave, I don’t really blame you after the work you put into Orbit only to have it chucked back and pissed about with, I wasn’t exactly over the moon either the way things panned out. Other than the shitty politics of it it just passed its sell-by date and the momentum was lost, nothing new in the DASA camp in that.
Alex, Mark was trying to call you the other day to resolve this, did he get you and is it sorted? Also GS from AIS has been trying to talk to you as well, I was asked to pass on the message so I’ve done my bit now. 😉

Is exactly the problem with DASA.
Nothing ever seems to happen, even if it does happen! I have stirred up a hornets nest with the posts I put up there and you see the level of reaction to it, pass me the paddles and we’ll try electro-shock! 😆
So, basically, you need a fuck-off big rabbit out the hat for the AGM, but what?

The big problem is we dont know who the council have in mind as a the new director.
this can not be discussed in open forum as it would compromise any unsucessfull candidates existing employment. So might it be an idea to ask all existing members to e-mail the chairman and put forward the name of the person they would like to see at the helm giving the reasons for their choice. If enough people show up at York then we would know if the council were listening as we would have time to talk to one another and compare notes.Just a Thought

1] Graham from AIS?? Heard bugger all, no point in him even trying now. We finished with them over 2 months ago, and as they never had the decency to allay my concerns or even take the trouble to: a)answer my letters: b) return my phone calls: c) acknowledge my final letter of termination: d: get their accounts right.
Therefore on the strength of what appears to be dis-interest on their part, there is little point carrying on.
2] Mark Scoggs. Had a long chat with him and he has told me his side of the story, yet I’m waiting to hear from Old Tog, despite 2 p.m.’s to O.T. I’ve yet to hear his story. I’m quite happy with the result of my chat with Scoggs, and will put something in the appropriate department once O.T gets back and after the minutes are made public. I must admit I’m getting fed up with writing about that lot anyway.
Mark, was heaping praise on Ken & UKW during that call and he really feels that this means of communication has worked well for the industry and helped DASA to seek new direction. I assume he hasn’t access to this room?

Good thought, which I suggested a few pages ago. Trouble is we need a bit of a clue who to nominate. Otherwise loads of names will come up who aren’t even in the running.
Can I propose Bill Clinton?
