Well guys, went to this call in london, two young guys possibly students, dont know really. The pump was blocked from the funny sound it was making, got down on my knees, pulled the pump filter only to find CONDOM wrapped around the impeller. To make maters worse the water was nnnnnnnnnnn!!!! 8O. the jobs we have to do eh.

Re: The strangest thing you can find in a blocked pump

i had to remove a condom from a machine recently the parents had been away on holiday when the machine broke down, i couldnt bring myself to tell them what the problem was.
the most upsetting part of the job was that the condom obviously was used as it wasnt in its wrapper and i was fiddling about with my fingers before i knew what it was, it dint seem to matter how often i washed my hands.

First blocked pump I went out too was caused by a shredded terry’s nappy. Young couple had taken the green road and decided to steer clear of disposables. Their washing machine became blocked just before Christmas day and I arrived eleven days later… I wish I hadn’t. The memory of the smell will remain with me forever. Still, things have improved since then. Quite happy to retrieve the odd thong now & again!

Squeezed sump hose to check for blockages on indesit. Needle lodged sideways in hose went into hand 😯 . Luckily i wear latex gloves. Pierced hand but not glove. Was happy to find it was the sewing type πŸ˜€

Yeah I had the condom removal also last year, the lady of the house was there, her hubby & her teenage son, I said nothing but used long nose pliers to remove it.
Also I removed 2 holy medals, 2 screw nails, a bank card & loads of coins and a bra underwire from a PRIESTS washing machine once.. didn’t say anything to him either :rolls:

i have had all the usual plus a breast pad thing for when women are breast feeding! i love watching there faces as you pull it out they always blame there daughter strangely.also about a year ago i went to a candy w/ no drain tipped back pulled out filter and there was a Β£50 note with other bits backed up behind it. it was in three pieces the punter actually told me to keep it as atip so i went to the bank as the serial number was still ledgeable and hey presto a nice crisp Β£50 was handed to me. the best tip i have had πŸ˜† .the guy is a multi millionaire and buys the cheapest new washer off me every couple of years as his wife kills them (6 kids) on about 10 times a day.tried selling him abeter machine but does not want to know.

Re: The strangest thing you can find in a blocked pump

Pulled loads of Condoms out of washers when I was at Servis, especially when the parents were away, mainly in the later years when we got below the 200 quid marker for a machine. I even used to see my customers down the local night club on ‘pull a pig’ night. πŸ˜†
I’d never squeze a sump hose full stop because of the risk of ‘sharps’, learnt that at Servis too, never used to touch any machine that i thought might be suspect, even walked out of a junkies flat once because of it, he claimed he was diabetic, I told him he was a skag head, he agreed.
Had all the usuall with the Hotpoint ‘Moneybox’ loads of change, cigerette lighters, gold rings necklaces and earings, bank cards, curton hooks, Tazo’s, bobbles, half a mobile phone 😯
Bra wires always make me laugh when the lady of the house exclaims ‘Whats that?’ I then hold it under my man boob to demonstrate πŸ˜†
We used to do a service contract for a ‘house of ill repute’ and was always pulling bits of underware out of their machine, It was great, the girls just walked round wiv nout on, happy days πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Re: The strangest thing you can find in a blocked pump

My record find to date was Β£ 42.63 in a Zanussi FL1012. That was mostly in notes. I found Β£14. 64 (all in coins) after stripping a Hoover logic washer drier for loud banging noise. Coins were in every hose; the condenser ‘U’ vent hose; the pump; stuck in the sludge on the backplate – everywhere I looked. That was back in the days of the ‘yuppie’ during the house prices boom (mid 90’s). “I thought it was getting noisy” said the estate agent owner. That was the best thing he could think of to say. :rolls:
(Continues unintentionally disparaging estate agent topic πŸ˜† ) While repairing a Hotpoint washer with a no spin fault, I had a mid-fifties estate agent fellow standing there telling me how amazingly important he was; and how much money he was making; and in a roundabout way telling me how he wouldn’t be seen dead crouching on the wet floor clearing a Hotpoint pump.
“Oh yes, it is a dirty job sometimes; but I enjoy my work and it is rewarding to help people out of a crisis,” I said “and by the way, this is the problem” (a condom). I handed him the pump. “Could you remove that from the impellor and wash the pump thoroughly please? Take care not to get the coil wet. Thanks”.
On his return, he was still scarlet and was stuttering and shaking. Me, well I was perfectly calm. (LMAO inside). I couldn’t resist telling him at length to always ensure that trouser pockets were empty, and that such blockages cause pump failure. He was almost breathless with embarrassment. :rotfl:
    Pompous prat.
Mind you, he acts like my new best mate every time I call at the agent’s office. “Cup of tea or coffee, Steve?”

    I love my job…….. :snigger:

Re: The strangest thing you can find in a blocked pump

    Slightly off-topic……
About 6 years ago I visited a Servis drier that was “humming and the drum doesn’t turn”.
I pulled a dead hamster (rather wedge shaped) from under the drier fan. It had been missing for five days, said the lady. “Don’t let my daughter see it, I’ve convinced her that her hamster has gone to heaven.”
Maybe God has a use for a novelty door wedge……. :snigger:

try informing customers condoms are one use only and not to be washed and used again, great if you can keep a straight face πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜›
