ParticipantNORMALLY mean you have to replace the whole motor”
just done the 3rd repair without having to replace motor.
take of motor and housing
cut the rubber at end of mould-on to plastic housing
obtain rubber hose from pump-filter off a servis washer
cut to size
jubilee onto to both ends. rubber WILL stretch to fit over the housing and left-over rubber on motor housing.
so far 1 repair has laster well over a year (almost as long as original part) without issue, and another has lasted almost 10 months.
worth a go as it will only be a recall if you dont do it well enough first time round…

I think this refers to Askoll circulation pumps where the moulded rubber outlet breaks down and leaks.
Cheaper by far than the replacement pump but these fail for other reasons and you are only delaying the inevitable.Steve

of course but i was under the impression the replacement motors also have the same issue

If this is the Askol pump fitted to Diplomat (Whirlpool) dishwashers then the replacement pump is the proper one that should have been fitted in the first place.
Have done loads and never any problem and as Steve says it’s only delaying the inevitable.

thing is some customers baulk when you tell them itll be £120 for a new circ motor + labour then they decline the repair and often wont wanna pay you anyhting cos they wanna get a new machine.
this just allows you to cover your base and offer an alternative that if they decline the new pump you dont lose out yourself.
not ideal i know, but hey

Sometimes get a customer who says, ” I want it fixed but it doesn’t matter if it only lasts a few months because I’m: having the kitchen done / flogging it with the house / going for a ten-year round the world tour next month”….or similar.
Your solution would be ideal in such situations.
Self-amalgamating tape’s pretty good too 😀 .

gandh1 tip is a good one, and as Mike says for a short term fix it’s OK for some.
So depending on cutomer’s requirements they can now have a choice, as we all know “the customer is always right?”

Mike.
Could add to that: …..”getting a new government.”

but then the customer wouldnt be totally right. 100 seats left and tories need 58 of them to get a majority according to the beeeeeb
and yes 2 of our fixes were on people selling the house in at the most the next 12 months. so the servis hose fix were ideal repairs for them who didnt want a £170 repair to last for 2 years 🙂 i kinda felt sorry for htem too as they both seemed to have been beaten down heavily on the sale price of the home too

i’ve used the piece of hose repair to keep job price down. however i’ve also changed loads of knackered pumps and each time i keep the impellor housing. i’ve got about six at moment. dare i say it may be delaying the inevitable, but then thats another job.

there isnt one available macineman, i use the rubber found on the whirlpool/servis w/m’s that links the front filter with the rearmounted pump as its just the right diameter to allow for snug fit
