Yep, its been a slow year, no mistake. Its the one thing i hate about self employment, never knowing on a Monday if youre gonna make a grand or a tenner by friday.
I was very lucky to have a few years in offshore oil some time ago & managed to pay off the house, i would SERIOUSLY struggle to find that sort of spare cash now & what hair i have left would certainly say ta ta.
But hey, we’re in a low spot in the economic cycle, simple as that. There will be a recovery sooner or later.. wont there..?? 😯 😯

From that avatar I’m thinking that hair loss may not be the only issue here.. 😆
We’ve all seen this before, it happens. The doom & gloom merchants predict the end of the world in nigh but these days, instead of a sandwich board, they have a 24 hour news channel to fill with content and the bad news that the world will end tomorrow. :rolls:
The Great British Public (and the rest of the world) drink it up and yet, when all’s said and done, in most cases it only really affects the people that have big bucks invested in the financial markets. Joe Punter often remains largely unaffected beyond being a little bit more cautious with money until the media frenzy dies down.
Already fuel seems to be coming down a bit at least, that should brighten things up a little.
As usual I expect it will pass and retailers will moan at Christmas time that they’ve had a terrible year later due to the rednecks not being able to get a cheap mortgage in the US any more. They have to blame someone I suppose and it may as well be them, it must be about time the Yanks got the blame at any rate.
Meanwhile in Blighty, perhaps it’ll all make people think twice about tossing the eighteen month old POC Indesit out before someone takes a look at it. Then we can go in and sell them something decent to replace it as it will be BER if it needs so much as a door trim the way spares prices are going. 😉

I thought you couldn’t fly 😯
Seriously if I was in a situation where I could ‘ride it out’ it would be great but the uncertainty worries me. Give it a few months and see what it’s like then but then what happens if it doesn’t pick up, deeper in doo doo and for what? I must admit for a good while now the set wage at the end of the month seems very appealing as does switching off at 5pm.
Don’t get me wrong, I love doing what I do and being my own boss is the greatest, BUT it’s one of those times, I feel, that a little sacrifice is needed (not giving up my band for anyone though 😉 ).
I might even join helo at Comet 🙂TC

Please remember that whilst some people may not be eloquent or able to express themselves well in writing it does not make them a bad person or indeed bad at their job. Asides from which things like dyslexia are very common be it mild or severe and I do not feel that penalising people for trying to join a conversation is appropriate in this forum.
There are also several people here that are foreign nationals as well as residing in other countries and their command of English will not be as good as ours.
I’m not saying that’s what’s happening here, I’m just making the points. But, in any event, I applaud people trying to take part even if they do struggle with writing for whatever reason.
Most engineers I’ve known struggle to scrawl a report beyond “replaced *****” on a job sheet, if that’s even legible. 😉
Please try to be understanding and tolerant with people that are not as gifted with being able to write or type.

I had a rather accusing sounding answerphone message from Jade at Connect the other day, wondering why I’m not ordering much lately….. Actually I’ve been fairly busy for the last few weeks but not repairing appliances. Friends have been keeping me busy with jobs like rewiring, bathroom re-fitting, hanging doors, moving a hot water cylinder etc etc. I also do boat wiring and got a couple of days work doing that. I’m certainly glad the house is paid for though as it would be quite a worry otherwise.
This morning I went to a house where there was clearly a very sad atmosphere. I just got on with the job but when I’d finished the old chap told me what it was all about. He had recently lost 2 teenage grand-daughters in a car accident. I was shown a photo of the 2 gorgeous youngsters. Apparently a van driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, wandered across the road and wiped out 3 youngsters on their way to work in Aberdeen. It kind of puts our worries about work and income into perspective somehow 🙁

I did hear the van driver was the cause of that shocking smash Phidom, assumed he was texting or something, he of course survived, as is often the way.
