    Re: Tips, Tricks & Shortcuts

I use a very strong piece of thin nylon cord, it works on Indesit/Hotpoint ones most of the time as well. 🙂

I had a very badly built in, integrated Hotpoint (Indesit cloned ) W/Dryer with a broken door handle last week that I managed to get open using this trick.

It would have meant a recall after the builder had removed the floor tiles otherwise :rolls:

Ah, the problem with cord (string) is that where there is a raised area between the door and the interlock there isn’t sufficient gap for the wire to find the latch probe. And you cannot ‘wiggle’ it between to find the probe. Stiff wire has no such issues you’ll find it’s well up for a good wiggle to find the woggle. 😉

But don’t take my word for it but try it next time, it even works on those dreadful Indesit WIDL machines come to think of it!

String or wire? Take both then you’re fully covered eh? 8)

Years Ago i had a Couple Of Appliances That Wore broken down out in the sticks” :rolls:
On Inspection The Concrete counter weights had broken.

while transporting a new set to the customer by the time i arrived on checking the counterweights To my horror 😯 they had broken.

This happened Several times tried all ways to transport them some roads round this way there full of pot holes.

In The End The Only ❓ Solution i could think of was to cut to size some sleeves of a good cardboard layer the block with 5 pieces of cardboard both sides and tie it with Steel Strapping Ribbon
By The Time i Packed The Weights In A Box With Extra cardboard packing everything seem to work fine 🙂

Mind you these days they spray the concrete weights with a plastic coating saves them shaving against each other and chipping.

Just been to a hotpoint WD420 with worn brushes..

Due to the construction of the kitchen, i just managed to unplug the machine..then found the drain

hose was in two lengths, reaching through several cupboards to the waist outlet!

So the only way to get at the brushes was from underneath, after tilting the machine backwards in to it’s allocated space..

I managed to get the brushes off, and whilst waiting for a new set to be delivered..came up with a idea to aid refitting..as you have to feel for the screw holes in this very limited space..

    Solution

I put the screw in to the new holders, using a dab of wood glue to hold in place.. And just enough thread protruding to allow me to align the brush back up..
Then I simply had to position the screwdriver and tighten up…

    Hope that makes sense…

The way I open the Indesit/Hotpoints is to cut off the top of the handle with a snips and then use a long nose pliars to pull the latch pin up.

    Re: Tips, Tricks & Shortcuts

I appreciate your comments but guys, this thread is to ADD tips & tricks not really to make comments about them.( unless that is you spot an error?). The sharp eyed amongst you will note that the Bosch dishwasher .pdf file is from the USA and varies a great deal from European based models. Nevertheless some aspects, illustrations and component descriptions are identical and therefore a useful guide. I would suggest you copy the pdf into your own file system lest the link ceases to be available in future. 😉

But do take note of the useful tip contained within that .pdf on pages 9 & 30 😛 😈 😉

    Door Seal repair
Was out in the sticks to a washer (Beko)leaking from the lip of a door seal and running down the front.
Something had been trapped, material or lace etc and dipped the seal too far in with almost little creases.
No replacement on board so thought I would try to reform it,using hair dryer and screwdiver handle, pushing the lip towards me it reshaped after a short time and sealed fine, two weeks gone and still fine.

Probably most know about these ,but for those who don’t and do cooker and hob installs, then these make life a breeze to get the cables in.Will take 2 6mm2 or 10mm2 cables easily . http://www.alertelectrical.com/prod/1022/click-45a-easyfit-dual-appliance-outlet-plate

    hoover dryer heater
when replacing the heater the four wires will pull through the rear hole ok to change but the problem is fitting the retainer clip back into its retaining hole to hold the wires clear of the drum .
first thread a lenght or 1.5mm stranded curled banana shaped in from the back and out of the cable hole strip the wipe and hook a couple of strands around the clip push it inside then pull gently trim off when in place

Easy way to replace drum springs :

Unbolt dampers from cabinet. Thread a strong piece of nylon cord through the hook tab on the drum, the other end through a 2 foot long length of 2 by 1. Rotate the 2 by 1 whilst resting it across the top of the cabinet, keep rotating until the cord lifts the drum enough to simply hook the spring through the hole…..remove cord……viola!

(Often this is such a quick and easy process even without going to the trouble of unbolting the dampers. )

Panasonic Washing Machine – Emergency Door Opening Procedure

Not in user manuals but will be useful as they don’t open when the power fails or the PCB takes a hike.

I can’t get the image to show but follow the link.

Also, Pansonic washing machine manuals here:
