If you leave the wash temp dial on maximum setting then set it to a 40° wash, it will do a 40° wash, set it to 60° and it will wash at 60°.
If you set the temp dial to 40° then set the machine to a 90° wash it will wash at 40°. The temperature dial can only reduce temperatures, it does not increase them.
PS. Programme for silks & special finishes was programme 9 on old Hotpoint machines. 😉
Thanks, this is very useful information.
And, after much trawling through the internet, I have managed to source a scanned version of the manual for this machine. Result!

It isn’t open enough that I can slide anything into the drawer.
Any suggestions?
I can get by without using it by putting detergent in the bowl as I don’t use the pre-wash cycle or use fabric conditioner, but I’d prefer to have it working properly.
Thanks in advance. 😀

Please keep it all in one thread, it gets compluicated and messy otherwise.
Your problem is that the syphon cover in the drawer has popped up. This is the grid assebmbly in the right hand slot of the drawer. You will need something flexible to wiggle in there and try and push it back down again. A wire coat hanger is a good weapon of choice.

Penguin45,
Moderator.Good to know what I’m dealing with. Problem is, the drawer doesn’t come out far enough to get anything into the drawer area. Definitely not enough space for a wire coat hanger. I can get a piece of paper in there, but nothing much thicker than that. I can’t think of anything I can use that would help. Suggestions welcome! ❓
If I can’t sort it out, is there any problem with me just putting the detergent in the drum with my clothes? ❓

Participantyou can happily put your detergent in the drum with your load
the conditioner is your only problem with doing that

I’m a minimalist – so don’t use conditioner!
Good news on the detergent front. Thanks 🙂August 2, 2009 at 8:29 pm #292155Serena

Hi Mara,
I moved in my flat about 2 months ago and have exactly the same machine as you (even the sticker on the door!).
I could not work out how to use the dryer and have been looking ever since asking around and browsing internet for hours until I finally saw your post!
Next time I will press the half load button and will see how it goes!
Thanks

SHi Serena,
I’m glad the forum has helped you solve the dryer problem. It must have been very frustrating not being able to get it to work!
I have managed to find a scanned copy of the manual for the machine. If you want me to send you a copy, send me a PM with your email address, and I’ll forward a copy onto you (it’s a PDF file).

ParticipantHi mara,
I’ve just moved into a new flat and spookily enough i’ve got the same machine and all the same problems as you.
I’ve managed to get the washer and dryer working thatnks to your posts but am still finding it hard to locate a copy of the manual. Do you know where i could find a copy?
Many thanks
