I am begining to think that Tesco’s have a lot to answer for especialy for selling some of the crap they do & more to the point why do relatives insist on taking you along, ask your advice then totaly disregard what you say?

Gone with Sister shopping today, she wants a new upright & so as per usual goes for the cheapest. 🙁 She has come home with a Typhoon Dream House (Trust me it’s anything but a dream looking at it!) Cheap, Plastic tat 1800w bagless at around £40. She’s happy with it (and I suppose that is all that matters) it has a spare filter and belt supplied. Chances are it won’t last a year but have any of you heard of Typhoon and can you buy spares such as Belts and Filters?

Now about to jam head in tumble dryer and switch it on!

Best place for it would be for it to be launched into the centre of a typhoon if you ask me :rotl:

On a serious note filters and belts are available if the machine lasts that long :rolls:

    Hi WQ,

If it has “Made In China” on it you might get parts until they are all out of warranty. :rolls:

By the looks of it Kwatt it’s going to have to go back this afternoon because the bottom part where the filter is has mysteriously cracked. Both hubby and I had a look at it yesterday when we took her back home. Tools badly fit together in-short it is rather shoddy. The sticker on the bottom says “Made for Tesco Stores by Texplant BD99”

Like the good sister I am I shall giver her £50 to go with her £49 so she buy a Leccylux or Hoover.

    Re: Typhoon Dream House

I was talking about some of the new Lux and Hoover models the other day with a relatively large retailer here and, the general opinion was that they were… ehm, rubbish pretty much. I won’t repeat what was actually said word for word, we’ll leave it at, it wasn’t complimentary. 😉

Just watch WQ as some of it really isn’t that good, not much better than the cheap Chinese junk as they’re all competing solely on price.

I have spoken to Dave about getting more vac spares in the store and, the answer I get from him and others is that the cleaners have such a short lifespan these days it’s hardly worth the trouble. That is really sad but it does seem to be the way things are. 🙁

    Hi WQ

Check the rating plates on the machines for country of origin as even some of the machines in that price range have PRC stamped on them. Probably a better machine if origin is EU 😉

    Re: Typhoon Dream House

Thanks for the information Gentleman. I have to say you have rather suprised me Kwatt as Hoover was a very good cleaner. (Sighs) In the old days we used to sell more Hoover Uprights than the Electrolux, but more Electrolux Cylinders than the Hoover ones. I guess PRC has a lot to answer for!!!!!!!

Maybe your next project for ISE is to design a Vac? Now any recomendations for the £100 bracket or do I need to up the anti & take the plastic with me?

    Hi WQ

The Panasonic MCE3002 is about the best in the sub £100 bracket. Nice thing about Panasonic is one bag fits all the uprights, so finding replacements should be easy.

If you want to give the plastic a hammering WQ, then get the Sebo X1.1 German tech and build, comes with a full 5 year guarantee too.

I’m with Don, get a Sebo. 5 years trouble free hassle and a cleaner that actually cleans. 😉

I am just about to go and pull the car out of the garage & pick up my sis as I am rapidly typing this. Talk about multi-tasking!

We shall go and do battle with Tesco’s & then a whip over to the Silverlink to see what the two C’s have to offer & then maybe a spot of afternoon tea. I gonna need a cream scone and a cuppa by the sounds of it.

Thank you – I shall let you know how we get on!

    Sorted

We managed to return the Typhoon & get a refund and after much persuasion on my part, (put it this way I earned my cream tea)

I made a 1/2 contribution to my sister’s purchase of a Sebo Automatic X1.1 from Argos priced at £199.59 I have also committed myself to buying the bags for her at £10.79 a time. (She baulked at the cost of them.)

You were certainly right Kwatt ! they are expensive but they seem very well screwed together & rather sturdy. So perhaps it will last a good few years.

Excellent WQ, score one more for the team. 😉

They are brilliant cleaners and well worth the money IMO.

Just a quick post to say that MIELE is to launch a range of UPRIGHT cleaners, called the S7, in the Summer.

Apparently 8 years in the design process. Supposedly designed for the UK market, after repeated requests from customers.

ERTweekly.com mentions them in a small article dated end of February 2008.

Headlight, variable power control, tools on-board, etc.
