My Ultima was making helluva noises during spinning and draining. Switshed off, took the drain pump and the drain hose off. The filter in the drain hose was absolutely full of stuff ( a sock, some underwire from a bra, enough loose change to buy a few pints, must learn to check the pockets better). Anyway, I cleared this out, reassembled. The machine now spins and drains silently, but the dryer doesn’t work.

It goes through the motions, the condenser takes water in, th etimer counts down, but there is no heat at all. Does anybody have any idea what I might have broken? I’d like to try and fix it myself before calling out the pros.

    Thanks
    James

This thread will help, pretty much the same machine 🙂

Thanks Dave for the quick response. I can only see one heater element when I remove the back (or should I say the little inspection panel, as the whole back doesn’t come off), does this do both drying and washing ? (In any case this element heats up, as I confirmed with a 95 degree wash).

If I knew where the thermostat was I could check it, although I still think I’ve probably dislodged a wire somehow.

    Thanks

The dryer heating element is on top of the drum, encased in a metal ducting. The advice given in the link that Dave provided is spot on.
There has been a full modification of the whole of the dryer heater assembly on this machine. If you do not change it you will have persistant problems, changing the stat is not a cure, only a temporary fix.

What is the Date Code (first two numbers of serial number) of your machine?

Modification was from Date Code 40, so you do need the full kit to effect a proper repair.

Thanks for the advice, the stat has definitely gone OC. So where do I get the full kit from.

    Cheers

Part number is 1605230, e mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should do the trick. 🙂

Thanks for the expert remote diagnosis. Part arrived today, fitted and all is well. 😀 Great service all round.

Of course you didn’t tell me I’d have to drill a whopping great hole in the body to take the filter, or that my cables would be too short with the mod. 😉

Fitting the 1605230 heat box you also need to remove filter, remove wiring suppying vlave to filter etc etc,

    Re: Ultima WD865 Woes

It could be, the filter has been removed to improve the air flow over the element. Unless they include specific instructions to do so , no drilling etc is required when fitting Hotpoint parts/modifications.

    I will e-mail you ASAP. 😉

I think johnny refers to having to remove them to gain access/fit only rather than remove them completely 😀

    Dave.

No, they should be removed completely, and discarded.

All these instructions are normally included with the parts. ❓
