what make, model is your trusty servant..this could have a bearing on any answers and decisions… have you been satisfied with the performance over the years? this might influence your choice of the replacement if it comes to that. and what is wrong with your exsisting one? more info please.

Andy,
Having managed to pick the bones out of this, you’ve got a cheap Servis with a dodgy computer board. Be thankful that it’s lasted 3 years. Repair would be a replacement board, so you won’t get change out of at least £150.£250 washer dryer? Don’t do it……… The old adage that you get what you pay for has never been so true. £300 starts to get you into decent (but not good) washer territory. If you really want a washer dryer, you’ve got to budget for at least £400 to get something reasonable, and be prepared to pay for your soaring electricity bill as well.

Participantyou think its the board, ah thats a show stopper then defo a new washer.
Only theing to add, is that on the digi diaplay where it shows you the time left, it has a small flashing LED, which I cant remember used to flash constantly all the time before.
As soon a s you switch it on it flashes away.
Any recomendations please?
surely they washerdryer’s are better now? I would prefer one of these for space saving really, We wouldnt use the dryer that much really but still nice to have
As I say if I buy form Empire, I can get a 3 year warranty free with the washer/dryer, so even if I buy a cheap one, will hopefully work for 3 years at least?
as I say recommend please, Im a bit skint a t mo as just got married and aying off everythng now! ;(
cheers

recommendation….as above buy the most expensive you can afford.. go for a well known make in the UPPER price range! if with empire you pay installments a £1.00 or two more will get you a reliable long lasting appliance…BUY THE BEST. there is lots off info you can easily access on w/ds.

Er no, I have many customers with Hotpoint and Hoover washer dryers that are well over ten years old and still working perfectly, the new Hotpoint ones are full of Indesit bits and like the Servis and current Indesit will be lucky to last 3 years. Bear in mind when the Hotpoint washer dryer was purchased ten or twelve years ago it was, like all mid range appliances of the time just under £400. If you keep buying cheap appliances you will spend far more over a ten year period on machines that will be more likely to break down as well.

ParticipantI think to get the 3 year warranty you have to pay outright for it.
so it is goosed then, I was ready ot have a go tomorrow at it and check things but you reckon itss the board then its a no go,
does the flashy led mean anything? is it a show of no good machine, cant remember if it always did this or not.
I dont really want to spend too much though can you have a look on, on Empire here and suggest some? as I say reason Im picking Empire is I have an edExtra card so will get a 3 year warranty with the washer/dryer.

Hi Andy,
The only one on that page I’d remotely recommend is the Miele and, even that, I wouldn’t really recommend.
Washer dryers are a serious compromise. They don’t perform as well, they break more and they cost more. Not a lot to recommend there. 😉

EDIT: Forgot to mention, if you’re going to use Empire Direct then see this page for a 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount on all appliances that I got through.

I know they are not the best washers, but I ned to order today now, and with a 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off and a 3 year warranty I cant really look to go anywhere else.

Hi Andy,
I’d say the Bosch or Miele would be obvious. 😉
If you’re pressed on budget greater than that, one of the mid-range Zanussi machines or, if you’re really skint then the Tricity Bendix. Stay away from anything Indesit or Hotpoint, bad news.

Participantok Ive re-assesed and on your advice I think Im gonna go for the Zanussi (sorry money is tight) Zanussi ZWD12270W
Is this an ok machine? I take it Zanussi’s are a little better than the Indesit/hotpoint/servis machines?
AEG-Zanussi it says onthe site, and AEG are good are they I think – so Zanussi must have an influence frm the AEG machines? maybe?
September 1, 2007 at 9:13 pm #226159kwatt
KeymasterAEG/Electrolux/Zanussi are all from the same stable. 😉
From the choices, if you’re not able to go for the Miele then I’d suggest the Zanussi is probably the best bet on features against reliability. Just don’t expect miracles from the dryer. 😉
