ParticipantThanks K and Clive – that sounds like a very likely scenario. I’ll tell the engineer tomorrow. Is the SD replacement quite straightforward?
thanks

Biffa,
The logical thing to do when the engineer returns is to sit him at your computer and show him this thread! Then tell him to sign up…..Penguin45.

ParticipantPenguin – if only it was so easy. Engineer has just been. He checked PCB and agreed that it was faulty and that he would put a new one in. I told him about the SD problem, and yes, I showed him this thread. He tested SD with meter, and pronounced that it was fine. I pointed him at Clive’s post, which said that this was what would happen, but he wasn’t having it!
That’s 4 or 5 PCB’s now – I’ve lost count. At £150 a pop you’d think they’d be more intertested in trying something new. Out of interest, how much is a new SD?

ParticipantThought I’d revisit this thread as yet another circuit board has packed up. It’s been 11 now in the same machine – some fail instantly, some hold up for a few months. Smeg seem happy to keep replacing them, but have offerred an option of having an engineer come (which I would pay for) to make a report. They would then think about replacing the whole machine.
Has anyone heard of this before? – I’m tempted, but I’m also worried that if I go down this route the engineer won’t be able to find waht causes the fault (they haven’t so far in all their past visits). Does an engineers report involve anything they won’t have already tried?
Thanks

Biffa
Soap Dispenser is part number 812890061 and retails for £33.08.
We’ve been to machines just like yours which kept blowing boards and replacing the SD did work. As Clive says, they test fine when metered and may appear to be unconnected to the fault.
Surely at this stage it’s in the engineer’s best interests to at least try changing the SD?Craig

I also have a SMEG DWF66SS d/w (3.5 years old) and I believe the circuit board may have gone on mine too – the screen displays a random message and resetting it does not work.
Having read the posted comments, I thought I would have a go at putting a new one in myself but given that Biffa has replaced 11 PCB’s I am not sure it is worth going down this route now – especially if they cost £150 a pop. Am I to assume that once a PCB goes on a 3.5 year old machine that I may as well buy a new d/w?

Dispenser problems I expect Euan 😉
I would ask an engineer to check it over for you, these are generally good dishwashers and not cheap to replace. Repairs@ should point you in the right direction 🙂

Thanks Dave
Unfortunately, the repairs@ does not list a service engineer in our area. If I ordered a dispenser, is this something that one could fit without specialist help or tools? Any guidance /tips is much appreciated.

ParticipantWhirlpool dishwasher ADG644BR Type WIC
I have had a local engineer out twice to my whirlpool dishwasher type ADG644 and he can’t identify the fault.
The machine pulses when programme first starts. It sounds like the pump is energised to empty the machine and starts to fill only for a second and then repeats every second or so for several minutes. Eventually the machine fills but again the filling is in pulses. This occurs on all programmes at the filling stage but all other aspects of the programme work fine. The engineer said it must be the pcb so I removed it and took it to an electronics engineer. When I removed the pcb I noticed scorching around five diodes in the centre of the board. the electronics engineer said too much draw on the diodes had caused the overheating but could find nothing wrong with the pcb and said the diodes were o.k. Has anyone any idea what would be causing the problem. I dont want to spend £140 on a new pcb if it is something else causing the problem.December 6, 2012 at 4:25 pm #128933Martin

No don’t invest in a new PCB as chances are it is faulty along with a potential problem with the motor. 😯

Thanks Martin, That confirms my suspicion that there is a faulty part causing too great a draw of current from the pcb causing it to overheat. Will check out the pump first.
