its pretty simple. the repair work has gone because cust think they can get a bargain off freebay or gumtree, same with new sales. this month, s/h requests are more than double new appliance enquiries. fortunately, with our repair knowledge, we have been able to convert majortiy – about 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of s/h enquiries to aucessful repairs. just take a look at ebay and see the prices of s/h cookers and washers, both are ridiculously high, borderline specialist s/h or refurb shop prices, but its still cheaper to buy a decent bosch s/h than a new currys essential for example. and heres where the multiples are goign to have to learn, they have compressed prices so much so that quality has had to suffer to an extent and enough to put customers off returning… and they forget that unhappy customers talk…

Well we have ISE sold and being maintained but no where near 300, that said we are also in a high concentration area and we also had a GEC group factory that employees purchased Hotpoint Appliances from. On the other hand we have blanket advertising and our business has been at it for 40 years !
I have myself just come back from a long haul holiday and the flights were booked solid with British passengers, lets all hope that it changes tack soon as if it does not there will be some who will not survive.

Had a bloke last week enquiring about a new fridge, “It has to be silver and 170×60”. Told him we could do an LG for £449. “Thanks for that, I’ll go see if I can find it cheaper online and come back to you”.
Luckily a very rare model so came back tail between his legs saying he couldn’t find anything online and I could he please buy it. Told him to look harder online as there was no way I’d be helping him any further. Lost a sale but the satisfaction – and probably future hassle saved – was worth it .

you cant be doing too bad if your off on a cruise! only 2 jobs for me today, went out at 9am, back at 11am, phone not rang at all. might have to get an employed job after nearly 10 years of running my own business.

something i picked up from the appprentice last year which ive used twice since in situations like that after theyve negotiated the price right down and then say theyll pop back after having a think about it. i know full well its outside onto the blackberry or back home to the net. then they are back and wanting the same price and i have to tell them i cant do it any more because its been sold (at ticket price) then they say but you can get another in cant you, and im like yep but it wont be for this mornings price. im nice enough that if i can ill still knock a bit off because they want to take it boxed and for cash, but if they wont put a deposit down, i wont hold an agreed price unless im desperate to get rid of deadstock 😆

Hi all, we are pretty quiet down here too, May has been a non starter for repairs and sales. We have been hit by a local 6 store company going bust and the reciever flooding the local market with heavily discounted appliances, they have finally shut the doors so i am hoping we will get more footfall in the store which will turn in to sales.
I have to say that i wont turn any sale away even if they have checked my prices against the internet, as a salesman i want them to buy from me and not the internet or anywhere else and if i have to suck their arse i will do it to get the sale, once the sale is achieved he will hopefully tell his friends and family not to bother looking elsewhere and come straight to us.
I wont cut my nose off to spite my face and this business is all about the customers, with out them you dont have a business.May 24, 2011 at 10:43 am #351215odom

Worth knowing but I’ve learnt from bitter experience that if a customer is difficult when you first meet them they’ll inevitably be a pain for the next few months too. I learnt that on one of the first washing machines I sold – difficult customer but I bent over backwards to help. Wasted tons of my time sorting out stupid complaints she had, even when she called at 2am in the morning!
In the end told her if she was so unhappy she could have a refund. She said she wanted a refund but would keep the machine! Told her to take me to court in the end and never heard any more from her.

here, here,
there must be something in the cornish air that doesnt make dills customers quite so demanding 😯
its always they ones who want comet/currys prices that also want the customer service beyond any reasonable level too. plus they tell their friends theyve found a pushover shop, who also go to you and end up creating even more grief. they are also the ones who dont actually know what to buy. and give you no information to go on… “alright mate i need a new washing machine” ok… what were you looking for? “your best deal, but not too expensive. looking to pay about £200”. in my experience trouble customers always tell you their price point as their first consideration

They are demanding, but if you dont like the heat stay out the kitchen as they say. I dont mind customers constantly ringing up, it keeps me in their mind all the time and they do in my opinion generate more sales for you, any recomendation is better than none at all. The customer in my mind is KING and what ever they want i will do if it generates a sale, add ons always increase the price and i have no problem wheather they think i am a pushover or not, i set the prices at the end of the day.

One of this customer’s complaints was…
Her: “This machine you sold me is playing up again and I want an engineer out today to look at it.”
Me: “Okay, I’m sorry to hear that. What’s wrong it it?”
Her: “Whenever I try and start a cycle the door lock light flashes.”
Me: “Okay, and you’ve made sure the door is firmly closed?”
Her: “No, the door is open.”
Me: “Okay… well, that isn’t really a fault. It’s the machine telling you to close the door before the cycle can start.”
Her: “Well, I don’t see why I can’t start the cycle then close the door when I want, not when the machine wants me to.”
Me: “Okaaaaay… well, I’m afraid I can’t redesign the machine and this isn’t really the sort of fault that would be covered by your guarantee.”
Her: “Oh, another fault conveniently not covered. Your guarantee doesn’t seem to cover any faults. Well, I still want an engineer out to confirm this is how it’s meant to be, because I’m sure it’s not right.”
Me: “I can come out but you need to understand if the machine starts fine with the door closed, then you’ll still be charged a call out charge.”
Her: “A call out charge! When I have a machine under guarantee? *rant rant rant*”:rolls: I still have nightmares that she’s going to call again one day!
