I’d have to say that we’re pretty pleased with that result.
K.That sounds like the reaction of a man expecting a kicking and only getting a slap in the face.

KeymasterHuh? What’s up with being pleased at the result? 😉

I just think it’s not very good and it ought to be disappointing but I presume you are thinking it could have been a lot worse – hense my comment.
They’ve totally missed what the ISE is all about, and why it isn’t just another washing machine, including the fact that it stands for Independent Service Engineering.
This bit – “The company was foundered by a group of ex-washing machine service engineers when they got fed up with repairing the machines” sounds like it’s a casual enterprise by a bunch of bored engineers. And “Noisy, poor rinsing” isn’t too good.
There’s good stuff in there too but it missed out the most important difference between it and an ordinary Beko.

KeymasterI agree, but there’s little point trying to argue with Which sadly. 😕

Hi Guys
Interesting debate so I thought I would interceed with some context.
Public Relations is not like advertising in that you do not control the message.
This has pluses and minuses;
The negatives are that what the independent media say you often don’t like or you disagree with. However the big plus is that their view of you is independent and seen as such by the general public; thus giving the positives much more credability.
On balance the Which report was positive and while a polite request to get our name right is appropriate there is nothing to gain over arguing over their perceptions of our machine.
The comment about it being a good first attempt leaves the door nicely open to us for the new ISE machines that we will be bringing to market in the summer.
I feel that overall the report gives us an additional tool to use when persuading prospective customers to purchase an ISE machine. This has certainly been the case on line where we have seen a marked rise in sales since this report was published on Thursday.
I did feel a bit sorry for Ken with your posts I normally have a go at him for being to passionate and getting involved in battles we don’t need to fight and here he has got a bit of a beating by being too pragmatic.

I don’t think you should argue with them, that was a flippant comment 🙂
My point was that it’s a review to be relieved about rather than be pleased about although it’s possible to be pleased if you feared it could be worse than it turned out 😉

It’s not bad. but their perceptions are that it’s little different to other washing machines, as we know, the main difference is in the service and future repairability, and that’s what’s most disappointingly missing from the report. However, as you say it is a good start. To be fair, Which? reviews aren’t very in-depth and they aren’t used to such a concept. Maybe if they were aware of it though it would have made a difference to the report.
I did feel a bit sorry for Ken … he has got a bit of a beating by being too pragmatic.
Did I miss something? 😉 I bet Ken can’t be doing with things going easy and smoothly – it unsettles him as he starts to anticipate things are bound to start going pear-shaped any time soon – and that’s stressful. lol

ParticipantFair points Andy,
The ISE customer proposition is based on much more than the machine itself (a point you made in your own write up but ignored by Which), personal service and the environmental benefits of long life span are values that the general public appreciate and where ISE’s competetive advantage is at it’s strongest.
We had no reason to expect a bad review from Which but having seen the slatings they have dished out to other people we’d be lying if we said we were not relieved.
This review does give us further credible endorsement of our product quality and allows us to continue with the business plan undamaged, therefore I am very happy with it; though we will request they use our propper picture and get our name right.
As for Ken’s sense of inpending doom – I’ll let him speak for himself on that.

I’m with you on the positive interpretation, and I feel you understand my disappointment angle too. I hope my initial mischievous remarks didn’t come across too seriously – I should have used a winky maybe.

I don’t have any sense of impending doom at all, I’m just naturally cautious and think things through to the Nth degree, probably too much.
Anyway, everyone knows the world ended when Y2K hit. 😉

It’s so easy for comments to come over differently than how you expected and it’s good to get a reminder of that. It was a bit too subtle for text I think. What I meant by “I bet Ken can’t be doing with things going easy and smoothly – it unsettles him as he starts to anticipate things are bound to start going pear-shaped any time soon – and that’s stressful.” is that (like most of us) we are sometimes so used to things going wrong that if things start going right we can start to get suspicious that it won’t be long before sommat goes wrong. It was just a general light-hearted comment.
I can see now reading it back that it could be interpretted as a dig at K but I’m sure K knows I don’t do that sort of thing 🙂
