    Hi,
Had a search but need a bit of clarification.
Clattering sound but no agitation or spin. Also the pump isn’t draining. Would this happen if the clutch is broken or would the pump still work and part no. if poss.?
    Thanks

    Thanks Ally,
Gave me a bit of a fright but reading up some posts looks easier than I originally thought of a gearbox.

    No it doesn’t

The pump is on the other end of the motor and should work as long as the motor is running.

Steve is correct Ally, the pump is connected to one side of the motor and the motor coupling is on the other.

Well I’ve ordered the clutch and go hoping for a good result. The pump didn’t work but maybe, not being familiar with this machine, I didn’t have the timer in the right place.
    Will keep you posted.
    Thanks to all.

Re: WHIRLPOOL 3RLEQ8000KQ2 Yankee top loader

    Update,
A new clutch coupling fitted and the washing is ok but it won’t spin. Tried leaving it through a programme, took it apart again but no joy. I tipped it back and looked at the coupling and it was spinning well but the drum wasn’t.
    Thanks

The clutch is a different part to the drive coupling ; have a look here http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?topic=6351.0 …this may be your problem

Yep, just using the description from Connect.
What I don’t get is how it was working ok before this coupling disintegrated and now it will wash but not spin.
I’m looking for an idea to work from as a possible cause.

Anyone got a clue as to the wash action but no spin?

Re: WHIRLPOOL 3RLEQ8000KQ2 Yankee top loader

In between the motor and the pump there is a cream plastic spacer, looks like a little top hat, has this fallen out when you were changing the coupling??

as i tried to point out, the clutch is probably slipping

Re: WHIRLPOOL 3RLEQ8000KQ2 Yankee top loader

Sorry Chezza, you are correct, I misread and thought the problem was not emptying 😳 .

The clutch is the most probable cause of no spin now you have changed the motor coupling. However I have came across a few of these where the “block basket drive” which is below the agitator wears causing the inner drum to drop and rub against the outer tub, if this happens it will cause the clutch to slip. Usualy when this happens you can slide your hand in between the bottom of the agitator and drum. To confirm if this part is faulty take out the agitator, undo the big nut which is attached to the block, lift out the drum and check to see if the block still has a lip at the top end. If not it has probably worn away causing the drum to drop, you will also notice circular score marks on the tub below where the drum sits.

I left them to try it and it started spinning ok but only with a load so will remain a mystery. Thanks for the input.
