    Re: Whirlpool 997 bearing replacement

Ok, bearings fitted OK, machine back together and all working including the drier function, BUT (there’s always a but), I have a slight leak at the bottom of the backplate, is it simply a case of tightening the sealing band more than I have already or is there some other trick that I need to know, many thanks for all your assistance

No, not usually a case of tightening. When shoving the back plate into the tub, the sealing gasket will almost always get dislodged from the edge of the back plate and have to be relocated before fitting the clamp band. Slip the back plate back, ensure all surfaces around the edge of the tank are spotlessly clean and that the gasket is fitted to the edge of the back plate correctly. When fitting the clamp band, you should finish up with a gap of about 1/4 – 3/8″ between the ends as a rough guide when fully tightened.

If it really won’t seal, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply a new tub gasket. It’s worth getting a tube of Debor sealant/adhesive at the same time. Sticks anything to everything and seals it, too.

My Mrs would have removed important parts of my anatomy by now, BTW – you’ve had three weeks to sort this out! 😀

    Stay safe – power off.

Yep true but in my defense I really have had only about three free evenings to work on it 😕
