that all depends on how well grounded you are.
if you got a hand on a metal case and one on a live bit you will find you got no chance of pulling away. but if you get a shock on one hand and outher hand is well away from earthed case or well insulated from ground the power cant travel through you very well to ground. this is why if im using a multimeter or working live i make shure my outher arm is away from earthed case and make shure i got feet on floor with good rubber soled shoes on, only thing i hate is when i work live i tend to sweat as i know one slip up is all it takes to end your life.

Perhaps an alternative profession for us would be that of Bomb Disposal !

I am sure most of us have had a belt at some point in our careers, But one I was on the end of late last year made me change my working practises dramatically. After fitting a dryer fan motor to an old Softwave Hoover I thought I would check that the elements were working by touching the heater box rather than going to the van to get my clamp on amp meter Big mistake, As for some reason the metal heater box is totaly isolated from any metalwork and not earthed the element had gone down, And I happend to touch the cast iron hotplace of a cooker at the same time. If the property had’nt had a sensitive RCD fitted I would not be here now.
