I decided to sleep on this and respond this morning ,But the the usual UKW thing has happened 😆 Everyone has siad what I wanted to but in a far more eloquent manner !
but for what it’s worth
If we are a trade association we have to represent ALL of the trade ,we must be incusive to the whole industry not exclusive to just some ,Ok I hear the argument re member benefits ,but we have the ID Cards ,the ability to provr that you work to a COP (instant credibility in the eyes of the cust I think )
we can weight the repairs @ by giving the customer a choice of wether to use a WTA member by putting WTA member on the tag line on there entry.
Also whether we like it or not the reality is that some of the changes we endeavour to bring about will benefit non members of the WTA but this this then creates a credibilty for the WTA as they are seen to be changing things and people will want to be on board.
I think the COP is a major asset in our credibility bank as it has been “policing” repairs @ for 2 years or so already & is shown as an effective policing system, this should sift out the cowboys.
I think that will do for the mo
the school run beckons .

Right, Ken has addressed and dealt with the initial concern by adding the blurb line under each WTA members details on the repairs@ module. Thanks  .
Now, we have people asking whether members details are going to be listed on the WTA site. Martin and Alex so far are saying yes. IMO, we need to confirm this quite quickly, so, what’s the general opinion? Are they or not?

I can’t see an issue if under my business name it says:
“Whitegoods Trade Association Member No. –“Having a fully detailed list on full public display on the WTA site seems unneccessary to me.

I think that the WTA site should have a facility to display members details. For a start, a user, be it a tradesman or member of the public should have the chance to browse members of the WTA, on the site without being routed to UKW.
Secondly, if we refuse to publish members details, we, could be seen as having something to hide. I can’t see why any member would object to having their details shown….whats the worst thing that can happen? Someone may contact you to give you work, be it a member of a WP or joe public?P.S, I dont mean list all details, just Company name, location and contact number.

Why not run it like CORGI , if you need a Corgi registered eng put in your postcode and hey presto a choice of engineers .
There is also another way of using the system ,which is you turn up on the door show your ID card ,mrs smith rings the WTA quotes your member no and confirms who you are ,or goes on the website and does the same .
I will display my member no next to my company name ,however I like Chris wonder if we need to publish all names etc as an open list as I think they will be lifted ,and that list is a valuable commodity in this day of e-news letters ,mailshot’s etc .
Will post more later

As you may have sussed from some other posts today I’m tired and CBA today TBH and, for that reason, I’m staying away from the members forum lest I say what I actually think.
There’s two schools of thought here…
One is that you go down the DASA route of publishing all of everyone’s details and to hell with the consequences of that.
Or you can take a more modern approach as CORGI and others do.
If you publish the list will be used to target work, sure. But we won’t know anything about it as the details are freely available without barrier.
It will also be used for spamming, for sure.
Personally I prefer the latter option as I don’t want my company details used to target phone deals or whatever else other cr4p someone wants to punt to me. If WP’s or whatever are serious about wishing to use our standards/network/members or whatever then they can lift the bloody phone or send us an email and easily get a list of relevant repairers as they can now from UKW.
Sorry, but I can’t see what the fuss is about over it, another stupid argument that is irrelevant so long as the information is available how you choose to provide it is merely a side issue.
