They get regular mentions in the forums, almost always about their rip off spares prices.

Just go onto their site and enter a few well known spares and compare the prices with trade and OEM list prices, in most cases they are way over the top.

A couple of quick examples, Hotpoint WMA drum lifter, list price £6.28, ESpares price £9.99.

1603360 WMA heater bracket, list price £3.17, ESpares price £8.19 😯

Jim i’m not sticking up for them but if the public can’t be a*sed to visit their local independent, then more fooled them for buying off espares.

From what i can gather perhaps they are having a dig at cdsl.

Had notification from Jtm about this today, they are dealing with the admin, espares are charging the customer about £69 inc vat, you invoice jtm for £40+vat.
You dont have to buy spares from them all they ask is to ‘do the job in the quickest possible time and provide the best possible service’
(which is what we all do anyway)
you can use own source but they need to just know what you have fitted and charge a realistic uplift rate to the customer for parts.
    (Like we always do)

Its another customer for your own books once you go to the customer and you leave them a business card and tell them what your own rate is then next time they will then deal direct with yourselves. 😀

    LMAO!

Have a read at it on the eSpares site and look at the Service Engineer’s Charter, guess who wrote that. 😉

They could have at least asked or re-worded it.

    Re: http://www.espares.co.uk

Interestingly I had a conversation with Sean about this today and I wonder if eSpares realise that they are responsible for anything going wrong with this? Quite interesting really as the customer’s contract is with eSpares since they appear to be taking and processing the payment and, if anything borks then they have to stand the costs and put up with the grief from the customers.

They also appear to claim copyright on our charter, interesting that is.

They also claim that all the engineers are signed up to the charter, new one on me, have any of you guys that work for JTM had to sign this charter outside of UKW? Have you even been asked to do so?

    It is interesting.

It is interesting that they rip off our charter and don’t even have the courtesy to acknowledge where they got it from. Some of the lads on this site worked dam hard on producing it and agonised over each line. I can assure you it took a lot longer to do than the cut and paste exercise they carried out.

Mmm – interesting few weeks, wasn’t it? I can only suggest that this is a complete lack of respect. Sad really, as so much of what we do is to try and raise the standard within the industry.

Too easy for a cheapskate retail operation. Lawyers? Yes, that would be nice. Front page news item would be good…….. Kenneth!

Oh come on fellas, enough of the mud slinging. Copy & paste? Don’t tell me that UKW has never done that little rodent excercise before? :rolls:

    Re: http://www.espares.co.uk

I’m quite relaxed about it really although it would have been nice to have seen the WTA getting the credit for writing it as, in reality, that’s who did write it. All I did was knock up the basics.

We could take them to task on it, but what’s the point?

As Steven says, accept the work, explain that it can be done cheaper and steal the customer. It’s also very easy to explain that the charter used is actually the WTA COP that was “stolen”, I’m sure customers will be most interested in the tale and, there’s bugger all that eSpares can do about that.

If it’s a write off, sell them an ISE. If they want more help or advice, refer them here. If they want spares of consumables sell them yourself or refer them here.

Honestly, the best thing to do is make the best of it and get what you can out it, if eSpares are stupid enough to hand out their customers details and refer them to us then who are we to argue with that idiotic tactic?

I actually don’t really see a downside, we can’t lose in the end if we play it correctly.

It really doesn’t matter all that much as anyone could do the same, it’s not an exclusive idea. In fact the basic premise of it is repairs@, so it could be argued that they’ve copied that as well.

But, right back at ya, as the Yanks say. We could do the same if we wanted to and, we could do it better. We’re all engineers, we’ve been screwed over many times, we don’t get mad… 😉
