Re: You want to charge me HOW MUCH!

We find the same problem when ordering parts for customers, i now always take a card payment over the phone before ordering, and the amount of times we have customers slamming the phone down on us when we tell them we have a £20 call out charge is getting more and more !. There is a few repairers in our area doing the free call out & estimates , good luck to them i remember all the running around for nothing in the browngood days learnt my lesson then. Luckily most of the repair work we do is warranty, but im sure things will get harder as finiancial pressure on households increases.

The way I see it, if I go to a M/c thats developing other faults beside the one reported by the customer, ie noisey bearings etc my call out charge enables me to be honest with the customer.
If I was doing free call outs the temptation might be to talk customers into jobs which are not really worth doing.

There is no such thing as free, that is how I justify my call out charge to clients, I also explain that many Free Call Out guys charge more for repairs, whilst I charge less, as I’m not spending all day doing calls for free, others have to make just as much money, so the calls they do for free without earning are paid for by the ones they do charge.

Makes sense then when the obvious is pointed out. :rolls:

When I told a customer my call out charge she was horrified and said that doctors charge less. I said I had thought about being a doctor but there wasnt enough money in it !!

Fitted a door boot to a Siemens integrated washer today. After I’d finished, during conversation she said that was cheaper that the other guy quoted me over the phone.

I asked her “how much” apparently he said £200, when she said it was integrated, he replied “in that case you’re looking at £250” 😯

So what did you quote her that made it so annoying?

only after 20 minutes of arguing did i finally get my money with a passing comment as i left saying “we’ll not be having you back ya conman” 😛

How much would it have cost I wonder for him to get a taxi to go and order the part and a taxi back home, then a taxi to pick up the part and back to his house to “shove” the drawer in? More than £40 I’d guess.

love the customer that says i’l never use you again that price is extorionate when you present them with the bill, then ring you again when they have further problems years later :rolls: thinking that you wont remember who they are ,they seem to remember the quality service long after the pain of parting with a few quid has gone 😀
