Give Dave 1st option as he puts a lot of work into the spare parts side of this site. If not we can.
01278-434978 9am to 12 or 2 to 4.00.
Quote the part number and ask for trade. (Has been agreed by the boss). With your address and card details we can get is sent straight to you from Distriparts.
There used to be instructions included.

I’m not sure about the conversion kit, I never knew one existed, it does sound like the most sensible answer though.
What’s the part number Mark ?
Dave.
The belt is still coming off occasionally, though not as often as before I stuck the pad back on. I think my best bet is to try another belt, just in case I got a duff one.
Can I get hold of this part from any of you guys (I’m reluctant to use my previous supplier)? Or would I best try Spares2go or other online stores?October 15, 2004 at 3:46 pm #117348Martin

After reading about the condenser fan conversion kit mentioned earlier in this thread, I’ve just fitted one to my own TC470, which had an appetite for fan belts, having consumed two in the last year or so, and just about to finish off it’s third.
Fairly simple to do. Bolt on another motor start capacitor to the bottom frame. Fit the supplied wires into the connectors already present (most just push in but one of them needs the original wire cutting and a new terminal crimped on), and fit the new condensor fan and housing.
Took about 40 minutes all in, half of which was double checking my work against the instructions supplied, which are written in such a way that I was never absolutely certain that I had understood them correctly!
Fitted a new rear bearing at the same time, and the result is that the machine is now a fair bit quieter than before, with no squeal from the belt whenever the drum reverses direction, and no more having to pull the machine out to refit the belt each time it falls off.
Parts cost was about £100 in total (including the bearing), which is cheaper than a new machine, but would pay for a fair few replacement belts. Hopefully it’ll be a lot more reliable now.

Good for you Dave, and the expense is worth it because they’re a reasonably reliable machine all in all I reckon 🙂

i have done loads of these and once the kit is fitted i have never gone back to one of them i think the fault lies in motor/floor because when the motor starts it moves and the floor moves a litle aswell only being thin metal then the bolt gets cattapulted off had one in the workshop and played with it for a bit yes i know i am sad but the kit is the only real way to solve this problem once and for all but apart from that they are a good machine

Yeah the belt does often catapult off during start-up, I agree. But a much cheaper fix would have been for them to simply make both pulleys with deeper grooves, to stop them ‘derailing’ 😉

Interesting. I don’t think my machine suffers from the catapulting fan belt symptom. Instead it squeaks maddeningly – sometimes it varies depending on whether it is reversing or not. Anyway, for the last several months mine hasn’t squeaked or dropped off(touchwood) despite an average usage of twice a day. Over the years I have replaced each of these:
Plastic Fan
Jockey Wheel and added 1/4″ spring to replace plastic spacer.
Rear bearing (twice)
Main belt (at least 3 times). Now the green fan belts have given me trouble – they get distorted and increase the squeaking. The last fix I did was to go back to the old black one which seems more rubbery than plasticy so perhaps less likely to melt. I also used a scriber to scratch lines on the two plastic pulleys, to increase the friction. This fix seems to have done it.
That said – I did come very close to trying out the electric fan solution, and since I do like the machine if it failed again I would still consider it – thanks to everyone, particularly daverob for posting.BobG

Our 470 stopped working over the weekend. Checked out green belt as suggested but no problem there. My problem is the main belt which has obviously snapped. Is replacing the main belt a major undertaking? I would welcome any advice on how to do it. Is it a DIY job?

Hi
Anyone know if the full electrical fan mod kit is still available?
I’ve seen motor/fan advertised under the same part number but cant seem to locate a source for the modification kit. ThanksDecember 2, 2010 at 11:40 am #117357NWRanger

Anyone got a picture of where the pad should be glued to ensure that the grove helps to keep the belt apart.

Don’t have a picture, but the pad gets stuck above and to the right of the fan pulley as you look at it from the rear of the machine – onto an oblong protrusion in the machine’s rear panel pressing – about the same size as the pad and with a roughened surface – which is where the pad should be mounted. With the pad in the correct position, the fan belt should press lightly against and run approx through the centre line of the pad as the belt leaves the top of the fan pulley.
I made up my own pad from a piece of felt (slightly thicker than the original) with a groove filed in for the belt track. I stuck it on with evostick impact adhesive. I also checked that there was clearance between the two sections of belt at the cross-over using a piece of paper. It’s been running trouble free and reasonably quiet for the past three months or so.
In my case, I probably didn’t need to replace the pad, but the belt had broken (and as a result the heater cut out needed a reset too) and I thought the broken belt might be due to excessive wear on the pad resulting in the two sides of the belt rubbing against each other at the cross-over.
FYI, I found that I needed the genuine Zanussi belt – the generic replacement I got first time stretched too much as it warmed up and regularly fell off the pulleys – resulting in the heater thermostat cutting out again – and that’s a pain to reset.
I also roughened the groove on the fan pulley and put a few drops of oil on the pad – this has succeeded in keeping the squeeks down and reducing the amount of green dust produced by the friction between belt and pad.
Hope that helps
