OK so whats the safest fix , a new relay ?

as a new PCB has the same fault , is it just as good to rely on my skillfull re solder or could the relay be damaged

i could do without a burnt out house

Please take heed of the engineers’ advice, concerning fire risk!

Without a doubt, I would purchase the new pcb, as there could be other components on the old board which could have been subjected to stress.

For what it’s worth, I think Zanussi quality has taken a dive in the last twenty years. My mum had 3 Zanussi dishwashers: the first lasted 7 years, the second lasted 5 years, and the third lasted 3 years.

    Hi, Tri, Wax.

There are really two options here, accepting that the PCB has not been uprated.

The cheapest option is to replace the relay. It is a plastic cased component – the heat generated by a soldered joint failing over time might damage it. If you can’t see anything, you can’t be sure. I mentioned earlier in this thread that the component relay can be sourced through Maplins or Radio Spares – both do retail sales. There are a variety of numbers on the relay case, they will help you identify the individual part.

The expensive option is to replace the PCB with a new one; but, what are you actually gaining here? Three years from now, it’ll do exactly the same thing. You could solder a reinforcing wire onto the offending relay terminals and drag them across the rest of the solder pad, or even to the output terminal.

The existing board is completely and safely repairable with a little time and patience.

    Regards,
    Penguin45.
