Zanussi-Electrolux ZENB 2526 Not cold enough

I slapped on an old manual meter I had and got the same result, never been good at the ranges though!

Found the part on ebay, allegedly new for less than a tenner, so hopefully it’ll turn up quick-ish. Not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} confident that the fridge doesn’t have more than a few problems with it – checked out the freezer properly, it’s running around -14 and the fridge is around 8. Do you think if I disconnect the suspect NTC sensor, I’ll see the freezer working any better – or do you think the unit will already be disregarding the results from it and running in safe mode?

one thing I thought about safe mode is this

if the unit is in use and the thermistor failed the user may not notice a lot of problems

if you start the unit after its been off for a while, under normal circumstances the unit would continue to run till the correct temp is reached. If it was in safe mode it would just time on and off. This would mean the unit wouls struggle to get down to temp so would take longer. Is that what you found ?

Yeah, when it’s been first powered on, it’s rarely instantly powered up the compressor, usually some time before it kicks in. When we put stuff in the freezer, takes them ages to cool down and obviously the temperature that it’s levelling out at is far from ideal. Difficult to know whether it’s timing on and off as you say – I believe it is, I had previously caught it off more often than on, last couple of days, more often on than off, but guess that’s just luck of the draw when I check on it. I’ll go and take it off and see if I can get any improvement in the lower temps.

Hi Dave, managed to get a cheap NTC and fitted it yesterday afternoon. The freezer section has gone much colder and is in range (just) -18. The fridge section hasn’t reduced much from what it was prior to replacing the sensor. Do you think it’s likely to be an issue the fan or am I just not giving it enough time to bring the fridge temperature down – I did have the controls at maximum, both on the outside and inside – but have adjusted them to be in line with the manual this afternoon.

Hi Dave – been in a few days, not seen much of a change in it – freezer is just about at the proper -18 temperature (but not quite) and I’d say fridge is about 8-10 degrees. The temperature did go up in the freezer over the weekend, but it seemed to come back down. I’ve not heard the machine not running (compressor seems permanently on – or I’ve not checked it when the defrost timer has kicked in) and over the weekend saw frost on items in the freezer – although this morning they appear clean. Is there anything else worth checking out or is it one of those that it’s probably got as good as it’s going to get?

according to the manual there is a slider at the back of the fridge that controls air flow from the freezer

where is this set ?

if its wide open is the fan running in the freezer ?

Hi Dave, I’ve had it in the middle and at max (where it is currently) – it’s the same slot where the NTC is, have to admit, I don’t remember seeing an air duct at all – the NTC seems to be in polystyrene – presumed the slider just conceals it – maybe it’s not sat right?

Hi Dave, there was no fan activity at all – so removed the cover off the freezer compartment to the battery. Thought I’d be able to get to the motor and put the multi-meter on it but there was no easy connectors. Reassembled the damn thing to get to the terminal on the back of the fridge/freezer and switched the power on and the fan magically came back on – I could tell with the airflow that it hadn’t worked for a while as the fridge had a different noise and it cut in and out when I open the fridge door. Have now managed to get it to a proper operational temperature. Less than a tenner for the NTC – a fair bit of time, but understand how a fridge freezer works now! Plus a giant mystery as to why removing the fan and putting it back in has kicked it into life… thanks again for your help!
