Re: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer pro

Ok, another update. Just to make absolutely sure that this problem was not caused by a water drainage problem I removed the waste hose from the standpipe and held it over a bucket for the duration of the drying cycle, making sure that the hose was withing the correct height limits at all times and that the end of the hose was never in the water at any time. I set the timer for 90 minutes drying time but again after around 30 – 35 minutes it sped through the timer counting down every 20 seconds and then with 28 minutes left on the timer, switched off and jumped straight to zero again, the cycle switched off again after just 46 minutes.

I AM SO RELIEVED THAT I FOUND YOUR POST!!I have had 5 Zanussi washer/dryers since Feb this year and the 1st one the fan on the dryer broke (didnt watch the timer and as it only lasted a few days dont know if it did work) but the other 4 the timer on the dryer counts down 20 seconds for a minute(obviously ZANUSSI TIME).
I had 4 Zanussi ZWD1472S and have now tried a ZWD1262S with exactly the same problem…I have had an engineer out and he got code E12(or E13?cant remeber for sure but is written down somewhere)and he said it was saying it wasnt letting enough water in and he put a wash on and it was fine (only the dryer timer has ever been a problem) and he checked the plumbing and the pressure and suggested a new motherboard and water valve. As it was only a few days old I refused-I am having a never ending battle with Zanussi. I have had an independent plumber check everything and it is all fine. Zanussi on the fourth machine would only have it back if I DID NOT HAVE THE SAME MACHINE AGAIN!I had no choice but to comply. I purchased these from DIXONS. I Have now had to go to Miller Brothers. I have been contacting Consumer Direct regularly as Zanussi consistently refused uplift codes because I’d had faulty machines(surely not my fault?) and now with this one there are insisting on a engineer before they will issue an uplift code. My dispute with them over the 4 machines is ongoing as I am trying to claim back my phone calls-i set them a copy of my bill and they offered to reimburse me for the amount EXCL VAT!! I have never had an apology for the way in which their customer service have treated me and I doubt I ever will. IT IS ALWAYS IMPLIED THAT THEIR IS SOMETHING WRONG MY END-I HAVE PROVED OTHERWISE-NOW THEY SAY I CANT SEND IT BACK COS I’VE ALREADY HAD FOUR(I ONLY HAD FOUR COS THEY ARE SUPPLYING FAULTY GOODS). Not many people have obviously noticed this because who sits and watches a dryer timer???But I am glad that you have because Zanussi think they can do as they like-I have always had Zanussi but NEVER EVER AGAIN!!

OH YES!I FORGOT TO SAY MY ZANUSSI ZWD1262 DOES A 2 HOUR CYCLE IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES COS WHEN IT GETS TO 1 HR 30 MINS LEFT IT STOPS!!!

I WISH I HAD NEVER BOUGHT A ZANUSSI WASHER DRYER–AND ITS A SHAME AS IT WASHES AND DRIES FINE—THE DRYER JUST WONT STAY ON FOR LONGER THAN 15 MINS!!!HOW CAN THEY NOT HAVE SORTED A TIMER OUT???YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT CIAO AS THERE IS A REVIEW ON THERE FOR AN OLD ZANUSSI WJD1257(OR SOMTHING LIKE THAT SORRY HAVENT GOT ALL MY PAPERWORK IT FITS IN DRAWER ALL OF ITS OWN) AND THAT HAD EXACTLY THE SAME TIMER PROBLEM AND THAT WAS WRITTEN IN 2005 AND THE MACHINE WAS 2 YEARS OLD AT THE POINT I THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GOD HELP US!!

I wonder just how many poeple out there really do have this problem but don’t know about it, after all most poeple would set the time then walk away and leave it, and if it isnt dry when they return, just put it on again for a short while (as if anything else is possible with these machines). After all, these machines are meant to be automatic so you would expect that you wouldn’t have to stand over it to switch it back on once it has switched off well before time. I suspect this problem may be much more widespread than it would appear at the moment, probably due to poeple having much better things to do with their time rather than stand over a dryer to make sure its working properly.

I agree!!Although my life has now resulted in a constant battle with Zanussi and it gets me nowhere!I have explained that most people probably wouldnt notice-I noticed because I rely heavily on a fixed schedule(I work Full Time and have a 3 year old-but you obviously have bigger problems than me and you have my greatest sympathy in this I hope we can get something sorted-WATCHDOG here we come!!!)so I always put the dryer on when I leave and return home and I can here it turn off from my dining table after the 15 miniutes.
Most importantly I sent a copy of your posts to Zanussi yesterday-out of sheer relief and hope that somebodyelse had the same problem but it normally takes 7-10 days for them to reply. They like to wait for something else to happen!!

Out of interest, where did you purchase your machine from?, and also what part of the UK do you live in?

I would personally NEVER buy a Zannussi Appliance again. A few years ago, I had my “fingers burnt” in a manner of speaking when I bought a Studio Compact Condenser Dryer & matching dishwasher 3yrs ago from Comet as my former home was quite small.

Within a month the Main Control Panel on the diswasher blew & Zannussi REFUSED to come out & repair the thing. They referred me back to Comet on the grounds that Comet buys the guarrantee off Electrolux Group in order to offer lower prices. By the time it took them to come out, assess & fix the thing that was 3 months down the line.

I have also had the dishwasher door crack, umpteen panels replaced, and the last straw was with the dryer, the heating elements kept blowing in the dryer as well as water leaking all over the floor.

After months & months of telephoning and writing to Zannusi’s Head Office, I finally scrapped both machines. When I moved house last year, I bought Whirlpool & have been delighted with both machines.

To me, it appears that ever since Zanussi’s stuff has been made by Electrolux their stuff & customer service is sheer c**p!

I sincerely hope you get a favourable result in the end! – Good Luck!

I live in Kingswinford, in the West Midlands, and I bought it from Dixons and they dispatched from Wednesbury which is about 10 miles away.
However the machine I have now ZWD1262(prev from Dixons it was ZWD1472) is from Miller Brothers and was dispatched from further away(havent got the paperwork to enlighten you but it is not near to me anyway!).
And yes I agree since Zanussi and AEG have become intergrated into Electrolux that does seem when the problems started.
I have had a seperate Washer & dryer for nearly 7 years until I changed them and there was nothing wrong with them.(The washer was sold and is still working as far as Im aware and the dryer I am still having to use!!).

Please tell Zanussi to do something to acknowledge this because I have no faith in them and neither has anyone Ive told me story to-they think it is crazy-this includes Dixons!!My 3yr old now expects washers to break and when they come and exchange them she asks “Does this washing machine work mummy?”

Hmm, something must be done about this, I have just come off the phone to comets where I bought mine from who just can’t believe it. Apart from this issue the machine is quite good, but I can’t put up with this and am thinking about trying a Bosch, although I will lose the spin speed, the wash capacity and the drying capacity I so desperately need.
Why should we put up with this eh, we pay enough of our hard earned money for these products and at the end of the day it is our money which keeps these poeple in jobs, they really need to listen to their customers.

Re: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer pro

Yes you are exactly right!!I too was going to try the Bosch but it is alot dearer and it is a smaller capacity wash and dry load which put me off because having a bigger wash load (my old one was also a 5kg) saved me one to two washes a week which is economically and mentally great!!
I was thinking of trying the LG 12336A(on special offer with Miller Brothers online for £395 at the mo!!)as this has a bigger capacity (7kg wash & 3.5kg dry) and has the delay start I lost with this new ZWD1262(my four zwd1472 had that and that was one of the reasons I chose it).
I have phoned Miller Bros but Zanussi have still insisted on engineer and they come out Tues 29th and they have said as soon has they have the report saying its faulty they will chase Zanussi and have guaranteed I can have this LG…Only thing is Ive never had one and didnt particular want to have one I wasnt sure of the quality of but I have no choice as the Bosch isnt really suitable and aswell as being over £100 more…

WHERE WILL THIS END???ALL I CAN SAY IS ZANUSSI ARE GOING TO LOSE A LOT OF CUSTOM AND THEIR REPUTATION AT THIS RATE….

Re: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer pro

For the record, most if not all of the laundry products for the Elux group are made at the Zanussi factory.

Comet used to have their own repair set up, and insisted on repairing themselves. They also bought the products extra cheap from the makers as they (Comet) took on the guarantee requirements.

Whilst I sympathise with your predicaments, I feel we have the machines we as consumers insist on paying for, with the resulting lesser quality. 25 years ago when I first started in this game, a Zanussi washer dryer was around the £400 mark……………….what are they now? Technology improves yes, but something has to give.

But that doesn’t mean that we should have to pay £480+ for shoddy goods that simply do not work or do the job they are intended to do.
I do understand what you are saying and maybe i’m wrong here, but also at the same time surely new technology is often cheaper, for example, an electronic timer with its much cheaper electronic components must be much cheaper to build (and should be more reliable) than the older mechanical timers.

The saving is not neccessarily in the component cost – it is certainly in the human element. Instead of a worker sitting at a bench and individually clipping in up to 120 wires as per the old electromechanical timers, slapping on half a dozen connector blocks is the work of seconds.

I have to say that your story to date is quite extraordinary. I think most people would accept that every so often, a duffer will come along, but this number in one thread……….?

    Good luck with it,

Re: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer pro

Well yes it is a fact of life that no manufacturer will produce 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} perfect working products all of the time—BUT I have had FIVE(yes FIVE ALL ZANUSSI) and everytime they have been faulty(I cannot say whether the timer was broke on the first machine as it was the dryer fan that stopped working) but I have given Zanussi every chance and had a brand new machine of them in the hope it was just a bad egg—-BUT FIVE BAD EGGS IS NOT BAD LUCK!!ITS A FAULT & THEY DONT WANT TO ADDRESS IT.As for the argument that machines are cheaper well that goes for the everything a computer is cheaper than it would have been 10 years ago but that still means it should work and hey I never asked for a digital timer they just dont make them with manual ones anymore(I’d have one straight away). Its not like I bought it graded or second hand its a brand new machine and I DID NOT PAY AROUND £400 FOR A TIMER ON A DRYER NOT TO WORK!!!It simply is that Zanussi want their good reputation so they get the sales but arent interested in any problems…
BY THE WAY IF YOU DO GET THE BOSCH WASHER DRYER THEY COMEAS STANDARD WITH A 2 YR GUARANTEE(THATS FAITH IN YR OWN PRODUCT).
Zanussi wanted me to have my 4th machine repaired and offered me an extension on the guarantee of 6 months!!!! WHat a joke – you want me to buy a brand new machine have it repaired almost instantly and then only over me and xtra 6 months peace of mind!!!
Anyway, I truly believe this should go further as why should they get away with selling something that has a inherent fault that they refuse to acknowledge because most people wont notice it and they still get their money because people still will buy them. Car manufacturers have to recall cars if they find out about faults—its the same thing–its not just one faulty machine(I accept that these things happen)its EVERY machine in the ZWD range…This is very frustrating….One good thing though CONSUMER DIRECT NOW HAVE A FILE ON THIS AND ARE DISGUSTED YOU SHOULD SPEAK TO THEM TOO–ZANUSSI ARE PLAYING AT GOD WITH OUR MONEY SAYING WHAT WE CAN AND CANT HAVE!!Just sort the fault and otherwise its pretty commonsense that their reputation will be lost.

Re: Zanussi ZWD1662W & AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 dryer pro

Its interesting that Zanussi wanted you to have your 4th machine repaired because I got fed up with getting new machines that were faulty and actually wanted ours repaired so that at least we had a working machine, the trouble is the engineer could NOT repair it because he simply could not find out what the fault was even though he saw the fault occur for himself and acknowledged that it should not happen, the ONLY option is to replace (or refund).
How do I get in touch with consumer direct?
