ParticipantYes – pushing the drum is really hard work and eventually it turns but the belt doesn’t…

ParticipantOK, I replaced the pulleys and rebuilt the machine. Switched on and everything worked. Hurrah! Then the drum stopped turning so that it could begin tumbling in the other direction and that was it. It just stopped.
I disassembled the machine again to check that I hadn’t inadvertantly twisted the belt or the like, but everything looks fine. Put everything back together and now the drum won’t turn again like the original probem reported. I did notice that the replacement pulley wheels didn’t seem to spin very freely, but the fact that the machine started to spin suggests that this is not an issue anyway.
Can anyone please advise further? The Wife is already sizing up new machines….

ParticipantWell now I have everything out of the machine, I am hoping the hardest part of the job is done…

ParticipantEmail sent 😉

ParticipantI’m based in Essex. I checked the UKW online shop but the only pulleys listed don’t have any Hoover models listed for compatibility. Will these fit?
Thanks

ParticipantWell, I managed to dismantle everything (there is only a tiny bit of plastic housing and the motor left!) and sure enough, the pulley wheels are knackered (one of them has burnt right through the support and the spindle of the snapped completely as I was removing them).
As for the source of the leak, it looks like it may have come from somewhere else in the kitchen and been absorbed by the vast amount of fluff inside the machine. Looks like it’s time to check the kitchen waste pipes again too 😡
So from whence does one purchase replacement pulley wheels?
m0nkeyb0y
ParticipantPants. I thought you were going to say that… 🙁

ParticipantHmmm…this is sounding like fun. How many hours should I set aside?
And what is the plastic support? I didnt see one when I looked in the top. Do I need to take the front off as well?
m0nkeyb0y
ParticipantWill I have to buy replacement pulleys? Are they sourceable from UKW?
m0nkeyb0y
ParticipantNope, pushing the drum achieves nothing. It’s really, really stiff and if I can get the drum to move, it just slips under the belt.
Looks like I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow afternoon now… 🙁

ParticipantYep just a hum from the timing unit at the top. I might be imagining it since I found the water, but it could be making a funny smell too…
m0nkeyb0y
ParticipantOK, just pulled the dryer out and the problem actually seems to be a little more than the bearings. With the lid off I can see that the drum is not turning although the belt seems tight. I have also noticed that water is leaking out of the corner of the unit (the opposite side to the condenser collection thingy) and I am suspecting that water may have gone through the motor ( 😡 ).
Does anyone know how I can get to the space under the drum to check? I also need to figure out where the water is coming from too. I cannot figure out how to get the sides, back or base off the unit so I’m a little stuck… Actually, I’m a lot stuck.

ParticipantThanks for the advice. I have booked an engineer’s call accordingly…
m0nkeyb0y
ParticipantOh pants…. :O
If it is still under warranty, do I just have to pay a call-out fee or will I be liable for the part costs too?
(I take it this not just the carbon brushes then…)

ParticipantRe: Indesit Evolution 1600 WE16S – F-02 Error????
Oh dear. So how come it works some times and then just stops?
How much is a new motor going to cost me…. 😯
